A leading member of the National Democratic Congress has blamed former Vice President Amissah Arthur and former Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission of largely contributing to the party’s defeat in the last elections.
According to Alhaji Mohammed Saani, the two leading economists of the NDC failed to respond appropriately when the then running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia “was busily punching the NDC government’s economic policies.”
Speaking in an interview, Alhaji Sani said Prof. Kwesi Botwe should therefore capture in his own committee’s report that they failed to face Dr. Bawumia’s economic prowess which also contributed to their defeat.
He was responding to the ongoing internal wrangling and blame games as NDC stalwarts have been embroiled in pointing accusing fingers to their own leadership for actions and inactions that sent the party to opposition.
The former Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the NDC said, “we must not look far in identifying who and who made us lose the elections…let’s blame Prof. Kwesi Botwe and Amissah-Arthur.”
“Amissah-Arthur was a whole governor of the Bank of Ghana and he couldn’t even face Bawumia…Bawumia was just a second deputy and ask yourself, between a whole governor and second deputy, who should be powerful in terms of economic knowledge and figures,” he charged.
“Look at the stature of Kwesi Botwe, a former finance minister, a professor of international recognition and he also failed to counter Bawumia’s economic lectures and the young man subjected the whole NDC government to series of attacks using figures and economics.”
“Bawumia is a small boy…a little boy for that matter yet Kwesi Botwe and Amissah-Arthur allowed him to constantly embarrass our government without a single reaction to him,” angry Alhaji Saani said.
Alhaji Saani said, “the most lame and annoying part is that, Amissah-Arthur told us his friend advised him not respond to Bawumia and I am asking him, did the friend do good or bad.”

Hello Alhaji Sanni, I dare say the comments from Dr Alhaji Bawumiah were without fault! Prof Botwe and Mr Amissah-Arthur had no reason to contest what Dr Alhaji Bawumiah had said. The NDC-run economy was simple bad. Please accept the hard truth on the ground. NDC simply ran the economy down. Maybe your style of handling the economy should be an issue NDC to discuss whenever NDC meets to consider the main reasons for it's election loss! Wishing NDC very good and forthright deliberation of its election loss. The agenda for its election loss should be the economy!
You right Kojo. Botwe made it clear that all that Dr. Bawumia said was right so what then did you expect him to say? The blame should rather go to Amissah Arthur for saying his friends asked him not to answer Bawumia's questions. His friends wanted to save his image because they knew Bawumia was right afterall. Lets also remember that when JM had the opportunity to chose a vice, he neglected Botwey and chosed Amissah because he knew that latter was "dumb", he will not ask questions as to why monies are spent recklessly.
Hahahahahah egyeeeeeeiiiiiiii!!! How the corrupt and incompetent NDC tried hard to counter Dr. Bawumia but to no avail! The guy is simply an economic wizard!Prof. Botwe made it clear that all that Dr. Bawumia said was right and that it was needless to offer empty rebuttal to taint his reputation.Amissah Arthur tried and saw how hot the fire was so he ran away.
Dr. Kwesi Botchwey is not a trained economist. Ammissah Arthur has a masters degree in economics from a university in Nigeria and got his appointment as the head of BOG as a favour but not on merrit. Dr Bawumiah has a PhD in economic and has lectured, researched, written books and worked extensively in the economic field. Dr. Botchwey and Paa Kwesi Arthur together were no match for Dr. Bawumiah. NDC were expecting "dogs" to face a lion in an economic debate; it was no match period. More over, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey wasn't going to put his international reputation on the line to go out and lie about the BORROW, INFLATE, CREATE, LOOT, SHARE and COVER-UP scheme the incompetent Mahamah and his gang of corrupt appointees were running. The man is very experienced and plays his cards very well. Alhaji, just admit that the incompetent Mahamah and his gang of corrupt appointees were bad for Ghana period.
I thought you guys said the DR has no credibility.
MASREE SAAA
I sincerely think this man is talking sense! Politics is about debate. If you fail in the debate you should be sure of losing the elections. THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED IN THIS CASE!
