Kweku Baako has appealed to Parliament to be soft on the Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga after being cited for contempt in the Parliamentary bribery scandal.
The Joe Ghartey Committee report on the scandal cited Mahama Ayariga for contempt of Parliament and further recommended that he apologizes to the House to purge him.
Following the presentation of the report to the Speaker of Parliament on Thursday, March 30, Mahama Ayariga was implored by the Speaker to render an unqualified apology which he hesitantly did.
But his apology seems to have rather infuriated some members of parliament because some believe he arrogantly ate humble pie.
While some Ghanaians are calling on the authorities of the House to expel him from the Legislative House to serve as deterrent to his colleagues, others like the Director of Elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who appeared on Wednesday edition of Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' wants sleeping dogs to lie.
Addressing the issue on 'Kokrokoo', Mr. Baako also called on Parliament not to take harsh punitive measures against him.
According to him, expelling the Bawku Central MP would be extreme.
To him, Mr. Ayariga looked pathetic when he was called to respond to the report in Parliament.
He therefore suggested he should be made to give a "well-articulated" apology to the House to bring closure to the case.
“I don’t think that we should push the sanction level to that extreme. An apology well-done, well-articulated, sincere; maybe sufficient cure for mischief of this whole rumor driven allegation has brought.”

Ayariga did not lie and was not guilty of any 'man made committee' Everybody knows parliamentarians have been taking bribes. This not the first time these allegations are pupping up. PC Appiah Ofori, ASK Bagbin, and even Osei Kyei Mensah have all made some kind of this allegation in the past. They cant all be untruth.
shameful lies they should rather keep cuul over the the sleepy dog.
@ Godwin come again my friend. It's good that you live in America and I think you know that the president can be impeached and that is " sacking" Yes! Mr Ayeriga can be "sacked" if he decides not to apologise to the parliament properly after being found guilty of bringing parliament Into disrepute and destruction.
No body can expel Ayariga from parliament. He was elected by the people of his constituency, he was not appointed and therefore cannot be sacked.
Kindly go find out what it takes to expel a Parliamentarian, and you will realize you're all off the mark. What you guys seek is a nine day wonder, and that can't happen? I am so sad we've become so polarized as a Nation by jealousy, envy, greed and deceit we hardly face facts and look into things objectively. The gentleman raised legal arguments in the House. We sit and pretend we don't know what happens in our country, and so personalize issues we refuse to work towards progress. I can see you guys can't see reason, and don't really knows what it takes to expel a member of Parliament. Keep dreaming...God saves our motherland Ghana.
Unfortunately, I disagree with Mr Baako on this one. This ayariga needs to be taught a lesson he and his cohorts will not forget in a hurry. Since when did mischief, lies and character assassination become an honourable thing to do? He was the same person who insulted some senior journalists for asking him questions which he in turn, told them where to shove their fuuuuuulish questions posed to him. He has very little regard for anyone. More so, he's wasting time, money and resources for this investigation which shouldn't have happened in the first place. He needs to be fired asap. No one needs his bogus apology. Parliament is for serious business and serious reputable persons. Herrrh, ndc, go ahead and do by-elections wai for a much more deserving person to occupy his seat.
All you guys calling for Ayariga to be expelled should do it themselves. ***barred word***!!!!!
The mildest punishment would be suspension for a period, plus concurrent forfeiture of monthly emoluments.
baako, shut the F up. You don't know what is good for Ghana. It is not yours to decide what to do with ayariga.
what about the money and time wasted by the committee whiles Ayariga knew he was lying? Is that also not inconsiderate of him to send everybody on a merry-go-round? What if someone does the same thing again next time? Will we let him off the hook too. Baako, sometimes you talk as if you deffeeecate from you big mouth
