The aL-hAJJ can confirm that the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party government has caused the newly appointed CEO of National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Samuel Annor, to terminate the employment of over 200 staffs suspected of being sympathizers of the outgone NDC.
The affected workers, this paper has gathered, were persons employed last year by the erstwhile Mahama administration and are suspected of being members or supporters of the now opposition National Democratic Congress.
While officials at the Authority claim the layoffs was part of the new administration’s staff rationalization policy, the pro-poor health management outfit has since employed over 300 known activist of the ruling party.
Sources at the NHIA told The aL-hAJJ that “employees who were employed last year and are on probation together with others have all been asked to go home. Their places are being taken over by new employees. The only explanation they gave was that the layoffs were part of the new administration’s staff rationalization plans.”
Documents in possession of The aL-hAJJ indicate that the Akufo-Addo government has also terminated the employment of all 216 Beneficiary Monitoring Assistants employed by the National Youth Authority under the NDC government.
In February this year, Mr Nathaniel Otoo resigned as CEO of NHIA due to change in government. Heads of other state owned institutions have also either resigned or been fired by President Akufo-Addo since he took office on January 7, this year.
Several government employees have also been shown the exit because they were employed during the erstwhile NDC administration. Early this year, The National Service Secretariat withdrew the appointment of National Service Staff whose recruitment was done in December, last year.
A statement issued by managers of the scheme and signed by the Acting Executive Director, Ussif Mustapha said “this decision has been informed by a thorough consideration of violations of due process prior to the recruitment”. The affected persons have however sued the secretariat for wrongful termination of appointment.
Workers at other state institutions like Bureau of National Investigation, National Security, COCOBOD, BOST and others have all had their fair share of the Akufo-Addo-led government’s policy of layoffs.
Last week, Chief of Staff, Mrs Akosua Frema Opare warned that government will sanction non-performing Chief Directors of the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Her comments come months after Energy Minister, Mr Boakye Agyarko, revealed that the Akufo-Addo government will sack civil servants appointed by the Mahama administration.
This, he said, will be done to safeguard the interest of the NPP’s loyal party faithful, by getting them to occupy the positions, such as those of the civil servants “whose party”, {the NDC} ideologies and beliefs are divergent from that of the NPP government.
"Most of our loyalists in the civil service were humiliated by the administrations of Mills and Mahama, and, so, for me, we have to urgently cater for such victims. We can't disregard the vigorous efforts of the grassroots who have given us the power," he noted.
"It is important for us, as a party, to work hard and expose and shame any NDC civil servant who will dare do any dubious thing to make the NPP government unpopular…what do you think will happen to me and the state, if I should continue to have some NDC civil servants in certain critical positions?," Mr Agyarko retorted on Oman Fm’s Boiling Point program.
Member of Parliament for Assin Central has also been advising the President, Ministers and Heads of State Institutions to sack all workers employed by the Mahama administration.

Nothing is retrogressing the country,a nation is build on qualified human resources and good policies not on party footsoldiers, not on evil mind to think that will make the new government unpopular for you to get another chance, who in his right sense will employ during transitional time only ndc who want to make a big deal out of nothing. The government has a mandate from the good people of Ghana and we've asked him to do what is good and best for the country so if he thinks a party's footsoldiers are not up to the task to move the country forward why should they keep them there when there are better ones with good ideas to move the country forward. Everything being done is a copy from the republic of ndc,if 2009 ndc had thought if the country Ghana and rather added their own people to those already employed by the new sector which was created by the past government, i think the same thing could be done. For the 8 years of ndc rule what was their vision and what sector did they create to add up to the new ones created by the past government? and if ndc couldn't do that to absolve even their own footsoldiers do you expect someone who created a sector for you to replace their members with your members to keep your people for his to go hungry? Why didn't ndc get a vision for their own people or they never slept for the 8 years to dream? They should sh*t up and stop disturbing our ears for what is good for the goose is equally good for the gander. Enjoy your opposition with petty bitterness.
Sometimes, l laugh when l read things of this nature. Ghana is a very small country and even getting a job after graduation is a problem. There are backlog of people who want to be employed but there are no jobs. Now and then, I hear of proceed on leave, this person have been sacked. Now all these people that are been sacked, is the new government reemploying them or they should go and sit at home? Mr. President, I thought you are learned and that you are bringing a new strategy as to how to keep old employees if a new government takes over and l find you doing the same thing? am soo disappointed in you to say the least. The best thing you have to do is to concentrate on how to add more jobs so that everyone can be employed. Not sending people home because you didn't put them there. I think that is rather retrogressing our growth as a country.
Bature why didn't your government also bring some policies to help your ndc members since NHIS is a brain child if Kuffuor NPP government. This is the problem I have with the ndc, they are complaining about something they never slept to dream of but somebody's vision which you even sacked people your government came to meet. Give us a break! For the republic of ndc is no more we have the republic of Ghana if think they've been unfairly treated they should go to court not Bature paper can save them. Every Ghanaian has the chance to reply if you are a qualified person, footsoldiers employed at the last minute has no business being retained. They should go back and join the line and resubmit their applications. Did ndc think employing g their footsoldiers during the transition time was going to help them? Did they think they were going to you this against the NPP as usual telling Ghanaians have short memory and would forget when these ndc footsoldiers were employed? You lie bad,we are wide awak e and wouldn't allow ndc to take us for granted. It is good those employed are also Ghanaians who are eager to work to help the government's vision succeed not incompetent saboteurs. Ndc get a life let Ibrahim Mahama employ them. ***barred word***!!!! Mo besu ara awu
Bature,if they have engaged 300 people are they also not ghanaians? This was the question people like you, Asiedu Nketia, Kofi Adams, Fred Agbenyo etc were asking. Do you think Ghanaians don't know what you did? Pls leave the gov't to work. If the time comes and Ghanaians are not happy with their work we will show them the way out just like they did to JM.
