Seasoned journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has called for the dismissal of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region, Daniel Appianing.
The DCE, speaking to Adom FM in the wake of the lynching of the late Maxwell Mahama, shared no pity over the incident.
To him, the late Military Officer was murdered because he was a leader of a Military detachment deployed to the community to protect some Chinese illegal miners.
The DCE noted the late officer was at the locality on a specific mission to protect the Chinese nationals who are illegally mining gold in the Upper Wassa Forest.
“There is a large number of military personnel protecting the Chinese that the lynched soldier is alleged to be part of, in fact he is said to be the leader . . . I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers . . . He was the leader of the soldiers protecting the Chinese galamseyers, anyone can confirm it from the police hierarchy here, and the BNI as well,” he said.
But Kweku Baako wants the DCE sacked with immediate effect.
According to him, the DCE has shown he is incompetent and his statements, seditious.
Mr. Baako stated emphatically that if the DCE is not dismissed, he would spark disaster in the area because his claims could incite the residents to perpetrate crimes.
“He should be dismissed with immediate effect. And it’s not because he said things that he felt he had to say but factually, what he said is not even the case . . . He should be dismissed. Call him to come to Accra and he should come along with his dismissal letter and hand over to the Minister . . . They should remove him quickly. It’s clear that he’s not going to be on top of his job. They should sack him, I’m convinced if they leave him there, it will be a disaster. I’m telling you. He doesn’t know his job and also does not take his time to make his checks. And then, he goes on to say things to inflame passions," he stressed.
Though he disclosed that the lynching of the officer may have a link with illegal mining activities (galamsey), he however believed the DCE would worsen matters.
“My hunch tells me that it has more to do with galamsey than armed robbery . . . My mind’s eye can see clearly that it is some of the consequences of anti-galamsey. It’s unfortunate but no matter what the investigators will find out the truth."
" . . He’s feeding into that thing that the soldiers stationed there are doing unauthorized and illegal operations. So, why won’t people get angry? Why won’t galamsey elements – mafia in the galamsey operations – take advantage of that and do things that they have been trying to do for a long time anyway?” he questioned.

From the ex-DCE we are told the Soldiers were sent there to protect a mining concession. The defence Minister said he was part of anti galamsey operation. Somebody is not telling us the truth. This must be investigated before calling from the head of the DCE. Go to Subin Hill a town in the neighbourhood today and there are two soldiers protecting a chinese galaeyers
May our beloved brother's soul rest in perfect peace. in as much as we condemn the act of the indigenes of Denkyira obuasi we should also investigate what the DCE said. The minister of mines made a similar allegation and this is not the first time military men have been deployed on such missions. It happened in Prestea and Nzema sometime back and there clashes between the indigenes and the military. Indigenes were brutalized and some died during these clashes. The question we should ask ourselves is, who is responsible for the deploying these military men and for what purposes???. The military seems untouchable even if they err but I believe all citizens should be protected by the laws of our land
THAT OAF OF A DCE MUST BE SACKED AT ONCE.
I think this is a time the family and friends are mourning this soldier, so there is not need to talk about his mission at the denkyira areas. Of course he might be dispatched there to protect the Chinese. But my question is why should the military personal go there to protect foreigners? Who sent them there? Why not the local law enforcement people that the community members know. That being said, this very sad. This murder shouldn't have happened. What is the role of the assemblyman? Why did they suspect him to be armed robber? He did not steal anything? Did they see him stealing? This does not make sense. They need investigate and they should let the law work....
Joey, you are the best person in commenting on this issue. Regardless of what might be going on, nobody has the right to dispatch another human being to his ancestors in this manner. Can these community stand a real armed robber? Even one armed robber with a gun will finish all of them in that savagery. For the DCE, sacking him alone is not enough. He should be made to spend some days in jail for such statements.
the dce is ***barred word***. even if wat he is saying is true is that how he should bring it out knowing very well how painful it is for Adams Mahama to die? I think the dce must be sacked.
Kwaku, Ghana has never appointed any qualified person do do his or her job because everything is political motivated. Once l know someone in politics, l should get a job. I understand the pain, l feel the same, but am sorry Kwaku
Why must soldiers guard small scale miners.we have greedy leaders in authority.we have been mining gold in this country for years but still poor.tell you what, the soldiers have their share from these small scale miners.i have an army friend who told me they make good money from these miners he is even planning on resigning and going abroad.he has completed putting up his five bedroom self contained house and drives a Toyota Camry.I dont side with the DCE,but there is something being hidden from the general public.ghana is just a u$eless country as we speak
why should he be sacked ? It is rather sad that a fine soldier should die this way all because of obeying orders from his superiors. The DCE is the one on the grounds and is speaking the plain truth by exposing the frustrations of the local folks which they handled wrongly and deserve severe punishment. They should have directed that wrong energy towards the owners of the mining firms operating there for which soldiers are alleged to be protecting.
I have followed Uncle Kweku Baako for over 26years now,i must admit he has goofed big time on the call for removal of the DCE of Denkyira Boase. He must send his boys there to bring him the truth before his unfortunate conclusion. Th e leadership this nation are rather deceiving every one.
