A former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Sampson Ahi has hit hard at government for failing to complete the construction of an official bungalow for the Vice President.
He said he is shocked by government’s seeming neglect of the project and has challenged it to complete the project.
“…If there are issues, they should raise the issues and address them for it [residence] to be used as duty post of the current Vice President and the subsequent Vice President of our country. If there are issues with it, they should take the necessary steps to rectify it and then continue with the project. If there has been overpayment they know what to do to get the money back and if the contractor has not been paid, they know what to do.”
Gov’t may audit $14m Veep residence contract – Akomea
The bungalow became a subject of controversy after the Vice President revealed, the project is costing the country almost $15 million dollars.
The Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea had revealed that government may launch a full scale audit into the building of the residence.
Nana Akomea had stated that he could not understand why the government committed to paying such an amount for the project.
“I think and I believe that is what the government will do. Is for to do a value for money auditing because this is a sole sourced contract and we all know some of the problems associated with sole sourcing.”
He said, “since 1993 we have had a residence for the Vice President of Ghana in which Arkaah, Attah-Mills, Aliu Mahama and John Mahama stayed and it was even fit for him to stay there as President and so the propriety of committing tax payers’ monies to the tune of $14 million to build another residence for the Vice President of Ghana in the light of some of the deprivations of the Ghanaians people are issues that all of us have to interrogate.”
According to Mr Akomea, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had already paid eight million dollars to the contractor for the execution of the project but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Nana Akufo-Addo believes the contract terms are outrageous.

This NDC Sampson Ahi guy eats too much, has too many nightmarish dreams, and talks by-heart. A residential house for Vice President that supposed to cost 15 million dollars, and pending audit; who should continue this NDC crime scene project? Why, does Sampson Ahi fears doing time at Nsawam now? Oh! Notorious Deceivers Criminals, hmmmm.
This is one reason why NDC will stay in opposition for a very long time. They refused to continue and complete NPP housing project that would have benefited thousands of Ghanaians. Today, they are crying for NPP to continue a housing project that will benefit ONLY PERSON. Any sense in that for a social democratic party? GREEDY BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These NDC people are vamp.ires...... John Ford Mahama is greedy and wicked. No wonder a relative of him referred to him as having the heart of the dev!l. How can an uncompleted house in Ghana cost $15M excluding the cost of the land? We must not allow these corrupt NDC guys to rule this nation again. We must all campaign to get these guys out of parliament in 2020.
The cost is for the Veep project and another one in Bole. Find out
These people are ***barred word***!! tweaaaaaaaaaa
I have been following things critically and I can confirm that there is no MP as FO0OLISH as Sampson Ahi. He never makes any sensible comments. Just last week he was saying Hackman Owusu announced that there won't be any increment in cocoa prices. when he was asked about his source he based his answer on hear say. And this is an MP in Ghana. No wisdom to investigate hear says. He just speaks because there are cameras on him or a microphone in front of him. This confirms the saying " You can take the boy out of the village but you can't get the village out of the boy."
Former US President Obama has bought a home at prime area in Washington DC just few distance from the white house, the house is a dream one with very expensive fitting including gold sprayed designed ceiling, antique chairs and a whole unimaginable interior, 2floor down below basement for $8.1m. How on earth can anyone tell me this uncompleted VP bungalow which is just like my building in Accra cost $15m? Are u kidding me Ghana? JUSES !That building at its stage could not cost more then $1m. Come on.
Really?. And this man was a deputy minister under Joh Mahama. No wonder NDC lost badly. Who is his right mind will complete the project now when the nation needs money for proper and beneficial projects. Is he pushing for this because of his kickback which is why the project was overpriced about 300%. Sampson Ahi should just ***barred word*** and let us think about important things.
...this man paaahh. Makes me think this man must certainly come from pluto. We need money for other more important projects to benefit Ghanaians ooo not your kick-back which you are waiting to take from the contractor ooo. Few good men!
Why not? Complete it fast , fast ,fast. So that 'we' who gave 'that' overpriced contract ,can collect 'all' our 'kickback'. You think 'we' dont know what 'we' are doing ?
