The Minority has described as shameful, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s new position on borrowing, saying it smacks of deception.
At the closing ceremony of the National Policy Summit on Tuesday, 15 August, Dr Bawumia, who was critical of the Mahama administration borrowing streak, said: “No government can say they won’t borrow money, that is ridiculous but you have to borrow responsibly and not recklessly.”
“A lot of people misunderstand when we say we are going to be responsible, it doesn’t mean that we will not borrow money, it only means that we are going to borrow responsibly and not recklessly,” he added.
Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi said on Tuesday that: “It is shameful for Bawumia to say in the past that we don’t need to borrow because we have all the resources here and now saying that we need to borrow and borrow responsibly, that is the problem I have with him.”
In Mr Avedzi’s view, the “reality is dawning on him [Dr Bawumia]”, adding: “He knows that what he said when he was in opposition as a running mate was meant to deceive the people of Ghana so that he can get the votes, he’s got it now and he is now telling the people that he will borrow.”
“The Vice President now and while he was the running mate for the NPP was emphatic on the issue about borrowing in Ghana saying that the country need not borrow and that we have the resources here in Ghana and that when they win power they will not borrow.
“Today he is now the Vice President, he is now giving a different interpretation to what he said; he is now defining that to be [that] they will be doing responsible borrowing.
“In the first place who did irresponsible borrowing? Every government borrows and this borrowing is approved by parliament and in the case of Ghana, the previous parliament was made up of both NPP and NDC members and every loan that was taken by the previous government was approved by parliament,” Mr Avedzi noted.

@Pinto. Are you a stranger in Ghana. I guess you leave on another planet. The Kwame Nkrumah interchange, the Kasoa flyover, the realsphating of our roads, the SHS schools that were built under NDC are reckless projects. is that what you meant? These projects are being used by NDC supporters only. think about it. If you are opposition different the way you talks and when in power too. let us stop this kangaroo politics are be real. let us hold politicians to their promises so they will not use lies to amass wealth at your vote
Are you the one to interpret what HE Bawumia said during the election? Where were you when he said it and didn't come to interpret to us what he meant during the election time? We are all educated and understand the queen's language so we don't need you to explain what he meant to us. The truth and reality is now starring him with his lies looking straight into his eyes. He is a committed moslem yet he lied to us. he should eat the humble pier and apologised to ghanaians and not try to make ***barred word*** out of us. We heard loud and clear that Ghana has the resources therefore NO need to borrow. he is starting his political carrier on a wrong note (lies) and he won't go far with this.
NOW HE IS LYING, EVERYDAY HE LIES, YESTERDAY HE LIED TOMORROW HE WILL LIE. VEEP LAIR .
This man was desperate to be called veep, there is nothing in his head, now u have it do it, good for nothing veep. NDC will not take u to opposition but the people u lie to them u and ur master who is just moving around not knowing what to do, toy government.
Alimak, let's bet on that. I know where you come from is different Ghana but for the 5 regions who knows best for themselves ndc must forget about power for 40 years kai! Who are going to vote for the ndc? Do you listen to the radio?and who comments on the radio to favour ndc mention one? Come on! You think Ghanaians are fo*ls like you hateful and ***barred word*** people who think power is to show others your strength but building a nation? Tell us for the 8 years of ndc us*less rule the policy that ndc implemented to help the good people of Ghana? 2020 what? Ndc coming for where? Mo ho y3 sere papa! Or you are still in that your JM TOASO world when you thought you only constituted Ghana forgetting other areas and regions in the country? 2020 will be the worse of the worst of the ndc defeat kai! Who in Ghana like ndc? And who are being attracted to thi*ves who are blocked headed? Masa, don't annoy us with your ndc nons*nse.Alimak and Ernest do yourselves a favour to get out of this platform nation wreckers and anti-Ghana progress. The world has accepted Ghana in just about 7 months of ndc in opposition and you think who in his right mind will vote ndc? Ghana will be built again,Ghana will prosper and progress under NPP , Ghana will be great. Free SHS is on course, Agriculture is working, those factories will be established for Ghanaian youth to get work to do but lazy ndc will suffer,Ghanaians will be happy but ndc will never be happy but who cares? Ghana is in safe hands and we dislike ndc like their founder Der said everybody hate ndc so how are you coming back?
NDc is rather SHAMEFUL! When BIG brains are managing, babies with sharp teeth and corrupt become confused. The catch word is 'borrow wisely & utilize prudently'!
If Bawumia's borrowing also ends up in bloated costs of projects so that government officials siphon money into their pockets then you can compare with NDC.
What will happen in 2020.Why are you in a rush.Just 8months in office you people are talking about take over in 2020.Wait till prosecution start
What Dr Bawumia said during the elections was said in context ; the truth is that the NDC borrowed so recklessly and misused the funds on irrelevant projects thus creating debt which must be re- paid ; people should mindful that the NDC left huge deficits which must be balanced with either internal prudent macroeconomic policies to generate taxes to reduce the deficit including forcing the collection of all mis appropriated funds stolen by these NDC KROOKS ; at this stage the government has no choice but to go out and borrow and increase the debt ; the trouble is you cannot keep on borrowing to repay your debts or go through the revolving debt door forever unless you use the borrowed funds to generate economic growth to reduce your debt like serious export growth.
did u say NDC will loose in 2020? NPP will only win by hijacking the transmitor or lying to Ghanaians again. May be u dnt live in gh like you will not say that. Ghanaians now know the different between Lies, bragging, instigators and selfish people.
