New Patriotic Party communicator, Edmund Kyei says it is shocking for former President John Dramani Mahama to describe the $2.5 million Ghana Post GPS application by the Nana Addo-led government as '419'.
According to him, the former President must learn the proper usage of the figures which are widely associated with corruption.
“It came as a shock to me when I heard former President Mahama talk about the $2.5 million Ghana Post GPS application being 419. I see 419 as an old description for corruption which I think as old as Mr. Mahama is, he should understand the use of 419,” he noted.
John Mahama described the recent launch of the Digital Addressing System by the Akufo-Addo government as pitiful and embarrassing.
He does not understand why the President was made "to launch a Google GPS system that is freely available on our mobile phones and say it is a national addressing system."
"Why will you embarrass the President so much? You go and take a whole President to bring him to come and launch a system that is 419,” Ex-Prez Mahama said.
Mahama’s comments compelled Deputy General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho to indicate that the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be hauled before the Special Prosecutor over the $2.5 million Ghana Post GPS application.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia will be put to test by the Special Prosecutor the NPP government wants to introduce to answer questions involving the fraudulent $2.5 million Ghana Post GPS application which the Vice President claims to be unique, but has turned out to be irrelevant.
But Edmund Kyei in an interview with Peacefmonline.com says both the former President and Koku Anyidoho have little knowledge on the claims they are making.
“When a Government of the day uses the resources of his country rightfully and invest in projects that seek the welfare of his country, I don't think it should be described as 419,” he said.
“The most shocking part of his [Mahama] speech was saying the addressing system is already free on google, the question we all ask ourselves is since when did browsing on google become free?” he quizzed.
Edmund described Mahama’s accusations as an “Adoption to score political points ahead of the next elections after their embarrassing defeat. I thought they have learnt their lessons from propaganda but I can see propaganda is their favorite dish they take every day.”
“Nowhere in the world can google help you identify a location without you having a special addressing system. I will use this opportunity to tell the NDC to introduce technology as a course in their school since they lack a proper understanding of modern technology,” he added.
He added that “Mahama sees the addressing system as 419 but his 3.5 million bus branding, 51 million to Woyome for no work done, the rot at GYEEDA, SADA, ISOFOTON and many other corrupt acts during his time as holy.”
“I knew Koku Anyidoho was born in the computer world so I thought he had much understanding of the digital addressing system. Koku Anyidoho also do not understand the work of the Special Prosecutor. The sSecial Prosecutor will not engage in witch hunting but will deal with corrupt acts.”
“The NPP Government shall protect the resources of Ghana and any resource in the hands of any Ghanaian will be taken back,” he noted.

First of all, let's stop using the word IGNO-RANCE any further. it's clear we all understand what we are saying here! In fact the argument is not limited to knowledge of Google maps and that stuff. You just admitted that a lot still has to be done to accomplish the essence of the Geocoding exercise and that's why we say paying $2.5m is way above the price for what the GhanaPost App does for now. With just a little conditional statement added to the code as it is given by Google, the actual digital GPS code as generated by the APP is a simple thing. The Google Map APIs used in the APP provide for regions and districts of Ghana already. So a simple ( if statement) could generate the post codes easily. As I understand, the first 2 characters represent the Region, the next 2 digits represent the number assigned to the district and the last four are just randomly generated numbers. And bcos those numbers are not assigned to any specific persons yet, they are not unique. Generating the codes is actually the simple part. Making any code unique and assigned to individuals is where the Job gets done. That's when the purpose of the App would be achieved. Now how do you envisage the pairing of these numbers to persons, companies, organization and how much that is also going to cost Ghana again? Still $2.5m is a scam for the app as it is. Iam really taking the app through a Qos test. I generate code every meter away and pay attention to the four digits that are created at the end of the code. If it remains the same then a certain aspect passes and otherwise, there is still something that has to be done. Charlie lets help mother Ghana ooo! Let's not waste money on stuff we could accomplish easily like a GPS Geolocation system. If they give me just $100K I could do it ooo.
I am amused by the ignorance being spewed about. I have used Google Maps to locate my residence. It gave me only the longitude and latitude not a digital address with the region, district and location code as the GhanaPostGPS does. As for compound houses and storey buildings having the same location code what stops GhanaPost from adding an additional special code for each apartment. @John, you yourself know that though the concerns you have raised are real they easily solved with tweaking the software just a little bit. You speak as someone with understanding of there matters and I believe you know what updating software entails, so rest assured, GhanaPostGPS will be a work in progress until it integrates ECG and Ghana Water Meters, Driving Licences, Car Ownership,. SSNIT membership, NHIS Card, Telephone Numbers, Bank accounts into the National Database. It is only the NPP which can do this. The NDC is only crying about a lost opportunity to be relevant. Let them stew in their envy and ignorance.
ndc officials thought by trumpeting that this gov't is corrupt then ghanaians will believe them. This is a lost battle from start. Reasons: 1. Ghanaians know this gov't are less than one year in power so what the NDC and JDM is doing is unspiring and not motivating enough to make people believe them. 2. Ghanaians also know that the NDC is divided and cracked from top to bottom and therefore, they doing a face saving strategy for their voices to be heard. 3. Whiles ghanaians are thinking and waiting for the presidents next social intervention to relieve them of the 8 years NDC hardship. The NDC are making noise to disturb everybody calling wolf wolf whereas there is no existence of wolf. A ploy to distract the gov't. 4. The most important of all the facts stated is ghanaians are wild awake of the lies of NDC and have not so soon forgotten what they were doing when they were in power. I recall JDM says ghanaians have short memories and thetrefore, just 10 months after he left office think ghanaians have forgotten about his stewardship. 5. PLEASE, GHANAIANS JDM MUST AT ALL COST BE PRESIDENT IN 2020 ELSE HE WIL DIE OOOOO POLITICALLY AND THEREFORE, AM BEGGING YOU ALL CONSIDER THE ***barred word*** PRESIDENT TO COME BACK AND INSULTS US AND ALOW HIS FAMILY AND CRONIES TO LOOT STATE COFFERS TO THE DETRIMENT OF OUR FUTURE UNBORN GENERATIONS.
thanks a lot 2nd comment, for sharing.Based on what you say it means 3mln dollars spent could still be value for money depending on type or quality of sevice.akrakyefour kasa.
NPP communicator must know that their hatred for JDM will not go anywhere. The man is blessed. Mahama was not the President when Sada, Woyome and most of the things you associate with ex-president was not sanctioned by him. So you should learn your facts before coming out with such things. We voted for you to make things easy for the ordinary man on the street but look at what you are doing. Bost saga, students sleeping under trees, bond saga, high utility bills, 419 GPRS and all the ceteras.
The Ex-President Mahama and his band of hooligans are very very 1gn0rant of how Software's/Apps and for that matter technology works! I heard John Mahama saying *“How can you launch a Google GPS system that is freely available on our mobile phone and say it is a national addressing system..."* You see where the IGNORANCE IS..?? 1. Google does NOT own a (Global Positioning System) "GPS System". 2. Google owns an Application called Google Maps or Google Earth; together with satellites in space which allows the applications Google run and for that matter any other third party Device or Application capture GPS Coordinates (Longitudes, Latitudes and Accuracy/Thresholds etc.) 3. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and other Companies and Countries also have their own Satellites in space, therefore..Someone could develop and Application and depend on NASA Satellites or Google Satellites, and even in some instances you have no idea the satellite which is helping you capture the COORDINATES. TO THE POINT: 1. The Asaase GPS application and Google Maps and a lot more are examples of different applications used to capture GPS data, and anyone can develop an app to capture GPS Information without lunching Satellites into space. 2. The question of COST comes in when someone (a Software Engineer) is contracted to build an application. The engineer can build his application based on an existing FREE Model under the Free License or Open Source Policy but that does NOT mean he will have to give it out for Free. WHAT DO I MEAN? (CONCLUSION) 1. Google Maps is FREE on our phones does NOT mean other Applications that uses Google COORDINATES or NASA COORDINATES are not to be sold at a PRICE!! 2. There are other 1 million GPS applications out there that are FREE but the question is: Will it fit into our purpose or objective..?? No software is straight forward, sometimes it needs to be tweaked to fit into requirements and that comes at a price, even if the Software is available for FREE as an Open Source Software. JOHN MAHAMA and HIS COHORTS Are wrong Again!
