Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen has responded to the query by President Nana Akufo-Addo regarding the extortion allegations leveled against him and his Ministry.
Though the President, in a statement cleared the Sector Minister of any malfeasance; he however requested he discloses the facts in relation to the organization of the recent Ghana Expatriates Business Awards held on Friday, December 8 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra.
Disclosing the facts, the Sector Minister denied the Ministry's involvement in extorting monies from expatriate business owners.
He explained that "the organizers of the event were specifically instructed not to collect any monies to place persons/organizations on the Presidential High Table for the event, and they provided assurances that this will not happen. It is worth noting that all the business executives who were seated at the Presidential High table, who incidentally are Chief Executives of some of the top tier corporate entities in Ghana, already have direct access to the President and do not need to pay monies to interact with him".
"For the avoidance of doubt, none of the individuals/companies who sat on the Presidential High Table at the event made a contribution of $100000.00 prior to the event as being alleged. Indeed, there were persons/companies seated at the Presidential High Table who did not make any monetary contribution before or after the event.
" . . there was no extortion or indication of extortion of monies from any expatriate business owner as being alleged. Indeed, no single individual has come out to make a claim of extortion," the Minister stated categorically.

IT LOOKS LIKE NPP IS FOOOOLING NDC MPS AT PARLIAMENT. BE SMART NDC AND STOP JUMPING FROM RUMOUR TO RUMOUR. IN THE CASE OF CORRUPTION LEVELLED AGAINST AGYARKO IT WAS HARD TO FOLLOW THE ARGUMENTS AND ACTIONS OF NDC MPS WHO CONTRADICTED THEMSELVES AND IMPLICATED THEIR OWN MEMBERS IN THE ALLEGED CORRUPTION. AT THE END THERE WERE NO PROOF OF CORRUPTION. IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE GAVE FALSE ALARM AND NDC MPS QUICKLY GOT TRAPPED INTO IT. IN THE CASE OF ALAN AND TRADE MINISTRY, SOMEBODY AGAIN GAVE A HINT OF EXPATRIATE CHARGED TO SIT BY THE PRESIDENT. AS IT STANDS NOW, NO SINGLE EXPATRIATE HAS AFFIRMED BEING CHARGED TO SIT BY THE PRESIDENT. AGAIN NDC MPS CANNOT PROVE ANY ALLEGATION MADE. THE TREND SEEMS TO PORTRAY NDC MPS INCREDIBLE AND UNTRUTHFUL, RUSHING TO DRAW CONCLUSION ON ANY RUMOUR THEY LAY HANDS OF. SO WHAT PROMPTED NDC TO COME OUT WITH THE CLAIM OF EXTORTION? THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PROGRAM, VICTOR GBEHO WHO IS MORE NDC THAN ANY OF THE MPS IN QUESTION, CONSIDERED THE CLAIMS OF NDC MPS LIES. IT APPEARS THE IDEA TO LEVY THE EXPATRIATES WHO WOULD SIT BY THE PRESIDENT WAS PROPOSED DURING THE PLANNING OF THE PROGRAMME BUT IT WAS NOT ADOPTED. AT EVERY OPEN MEETING IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO COME OUT WITH WILD IDEAS, HOWEVER IN EXECUTION OF PROGRAMS IT IS ONLY ADOPTED DECISIONS WHICH BECOME IMPLEMENTED. IT IS NONSENSICALLLLL FOR NDC MPS TO ACCUSE GOVERNMENT AND MINISTRIES OF IDEAS WHICH MIGHT BE SUGGESTED BUT NOT IMPLEMENTED. PLEASE NDC TAKE TIME, DONT RUSH, FOR IT LOOKS LIKE NPP IS SMARTER THAN YOU.
ndc is the most us3l3ss group of ple to ever exist. anytime they raise a red of some corrupt practice pls remember they were just thrown out of govt. experience they say is the best teacher. they did worse than npp may be doing.
Kwaku Nokwa , you're totally naive and ***barred word***. If you do a critical analysis of the events you would arrive at this baseless allegation about NDC . The fact that you support the NPP you not be blind to wrong doings. Every objective thinking person will not say what you have said. Please think twice,
t.h.e.f and his thi.e.f boss
So were does the fund raising coming from. They are confused.NPP please Ghanaians are not fuuuuuuuuuuls. You guys are worse than NDC
I am sorry
Normally executioners are afraid to lay on their backs therefore I am forced to think that the practice of collecting monies was part of the formalities in the previous government that was why they raised the issue. They have rather exposed themselves Ghanaians must not take them serious anymore.
