Residents of Chiana-Paga in the Upper East Region are appealing to President Akufo-Addo to pardon former National Coordinator of the defunct Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Abuga Pele.
He was handed a 6-year sentence by an Accra High court on Friday, after he was convicted for willfully causing financial loss to the state.
Mr. Abuga Pele superintended the awarding of GYEEDA contracts in the erstwhile John Mahama-led government that led to the loss of some state monies.
The former Parliamentarian was convicted alongside businessman Philip Assibit, who was found guilty of putting in false claims that made the nation lose more than GH¢4 million Ghana cedis.
Mr. Abuga-Pele is the former Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga and has attracted the sentiments of the natives.
Some residents who spoke to Joy News said they are saddened by the fate that has befallen their former legislator.
“…we are very sad by what has happened because Pele is not only our former MP but he is also the father of the constituency,” one aggrieved resident told Joy News correspondent Rafiq Salam.
“…we are appealing to His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, they should put politics aside and help Abuga Pele to come out,” another man said.
Meanwhile, former Roads and Highways Minister, Inusah Fuseini, has dismissed assertions that former GYEEDA boss was a mere victim of circumstances.
Mr. Fuseini told Joy FM's Newsfile show Saturday that, Abuga Pele could have avoided this fate if he practiced due diligence.

Even 2012 election petition some guys were put behind Bars and you didn't find the wisdom to tell Mahama to plead on their behalf but these guys chop ghana money and you think the Prez. will do what your bargain For?Bring the money plus interest and you will be Freed.Long Live the Laws of the State and Short Live the "Create,Loot and Share" squad in Ghana.
THIS IS JUST THE BEGINING, WATCHOUT FOR MORE , NO WAY FOR CRIMINALS. WHY DONT YOU SAY HE SHOULD FREE EVERYONE IN NSANWAMU....
This is the kind of ignorance that is keeping our country stagnant. A man defrauds the state, and u want the president to pardon him. What’s stopping other state officials from ***barred word*** our tax money? If he’s been giving a wrong verdict he’s always welcome to appeal the judgment, but the president’s power to give pardon to convicts aren’t given him to hand over pardons to political criminals.
This is impossible because Nana Addo can not disappoint the nation by heeding to your request for many reasons, what is the main duty of the special prosecutor?,or those who have been imprisoned just because they were caught stealing some cassavas, mobile phones, plantains or others mere valuables which does not affect the state directly. If your request is granted, then the President would be supporting corruption. They should be punishment to deterred others who are planning to do same.
I do one believe the story is true. This man has chop the country money and you go about pleading for him. I bet they will be saying " no release no vote". Oh Ama Ghana. People are chopping money, the big fishes needs to be arrested. He should have had more years
NEVER, Nana!
