Mr Kofi Portuphy, the National Chairman and leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that Ghana does not need a foreign military base as evidence to Ghana’s commitment to fight against terrorism.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, he said “Ghana is never ready to house a foreign military base be it American, British, Russian, Chinese or any other country”.
Mr Portuphy said it was regrettable that President Nana Addo in whom Ghanaians had so much faith could exercise such poor judgement in rushing through an agreement for establishment of a military base in our country.
“Where is the president’s sensitivity when Ghana and the black nations are being described in a derogatory manner by the very government seeking to establish a military base in Ghana,” he said.
Mr Portuphy further stated that Ghana has always been non-aligned, a principle that had enabled the country to play a neutral and influential role in international affairs.
“Indeed we cherish our longstanding friendly relations which had worked to the mutual benefit of our people, however we are opposed to the establishment of any military base by any foreign power on the soil of Ghana,” he stated.
Mr Portuphy said they would continue to oppose it in any form possible including forming human chains around any area the government in power decides to give away for the establishment of a foreign military base in Ghana.
He further cautioned the President of Ghana of his sensitivity when scores of Ghanaians were been deported from the USA in chains as if they were slaves.
He said “we are opposed to any agreement that drags Ghanaians into the vortex of super power rivalry; it is a principled defence of our sovereignty and independence”.
Bernard Mornah, Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), indicated that Ghana as a nation was not ready to have a military base in the country.
This he said was because it would not benefit the nation adding that what was approved on Friday by Parliament did not represent the interest of Ghana and therefore setting up a military base is of no importance to Ghanaians.
Mr Mornah said the People’s National Convention (PNC), National Democratic Congress (NDC), All People's Congress (APC), Progressive People’s Party (PPP), and civil society groups have also spoken against it.
He said many among the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs were uncomfortable with the agreement but were not able to stand up to what is right, therefore the establishment of the US military base should be ignored.
As part of our continuing protest, the inter-party coalition for national sovereignty will join the protest march scheduled for Wednesday March 28, 2018 in Accra.

Julor Portuphy is according to the NDC
YOU TURNED YOUR HOUSE, NEAR NII KWATEY'S HOUSE INTO A WAREHOUSE WHERE YOU SOLD NADMO PROPERTIES!! YOUR TIME IS PAST AND YOU WILL NEVER GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO STAEL AND DIVERT STATE PROPERTIES AGAIN!!!!
WHAT KOKU ANYIDOHO DID IS FAR MORE SERIOUS THAN WHAT THE THREE JOURNALIST DID TO BE JAILED DURING PRESIDENT MAHAMA AND HIS NDC GOVERNMENT. IN FACT THAT THREE JOURNALISTS WILL BE SADDENED AND FEEL CHEATED BY GHANA JUSTICE SYSTEM IF KOKU ANYIDOHO IS NOT JAILED.
Herrr we all know that it is just a mere talk. You want to score political point. I thought you people said the economy was not being managed well. So why leave the economy you claim is not doing well to go demonstrate against a deal you(NDC) signed before. NDC YOU CAN DO BETTER!! DEMONSTRATE AGAINST FREE SHS, RESTORATION OF TEACHER/NURSING TRAINING ALLOWANCE, DEMONSTRATE AGAINST MONETARY POLICY RATE (18%), DEMONSTRATE AGAINST INFLATION, DEMONSTRATE AGAINST 14 TAX CUTS etc. That is where Ghanaians will know you are serious.
the whole world now know how uneducated the ndc people are. we the Ghanaian Americans will love to have a US military base in the country. BUT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. N d c , please read read and read. please N D C get understanding, read more. this is really shameful.
i dont like the military deal but not bcos the cr1m1nals in the ndc are fighting against it. they are hypocrites and would have done worse than that. we know them. i dont like the deal bcos these ple see us as f000>ls and call us all sorts of names like sh&th0le countries. we need to show them that they cant insult us and get away with it. yes it was only one person that insulted us but he is their president. is he planning to mess our country up more than it is now? u cant trust this ple. there is no way they will go into any agreement with any country and they wont be the major beneficiaries of the deal. it is just a shame that our leaders can not stand them. we are doomed guys. what we need is investment in our industrial sector to help create jobs. not what will put our country out to their enemies and will make us targets for terrorist attacks. somehow i understand why these leaders have to agree to this deal. bcos if they dont the same US will send ple to attack us. these ple use ple to attack their own ple how much more a sh&th0le country like us. it is just unfortunate but the creator of heaven and earth is with us.
But you need what? Create, loot and sharers? Take your coconut head away from public view wai.
Ndc don't represent Ghana so can't speak for Ghana, they can only speak for themselves but unfortunately their fo*lishness can't be tolerated so it's better they find a space somewhere near the east Africa and create their own country and name it republic of ndc, they can create l0000t and share, make noise, pay judgement debts to their cronies and nobody will ask them to account or investigate them to face any law so can live in their own banana world and do whatever, but in Ghana here, you ste*l will face the law of our land if you ste*l from the people, you will face the Special Prosecutor and no amount of demonstration will save you, no amount of coup plot will help you, you will squarely face the laws and if found guilty and jailed the people will be happy. Ghana belong to Ghanaians not ndc and NPP was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Ghana to manage their country and be accountable to them but not ndc. Ndc came to power through election rigging, but NPP came through massive endorsement of the good people of Ghana . NPP is serving Ghana and Ghanaians not ndc, if ndc has lost their country they better go out there searching for it for they are in the wrong place so they can't talk for those who booted them out.
You and who? Just wait if the corrupt NDC ever get back to power you can abrogate the agreement.... Tell us how much bribe Hannah Tetteh took before signing the 2015 agreement in her bedroom under the cover of darkness..... Hypocrate NDC cr!m!nal gang....
