The woman who seems ‘untouchable’ in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says she has no regret for her attack on a journalist at her party’s headquarters last Friday.
Hajia Fati who has been nicknamed the 'Iron lady' in the NPP told NEAT FM’s morning show host, Mc-Jerry Osei Agyemang that, her action is justifiable but out of respect for the media fraternity “I am sorry”.
Hajia Fati reportedly punched a journalist from Accra based Adom FM, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa at the NPP headquarters on Friday, but said she only took that action because the reporter had not sought her permission before taking pictures of her, neither did she introduce herself as a journalist.
The victim had been assigned to the NPP headquarters last Friday to report on events as suspended Second Vice Chairman of the party; Sammy Crabbe had gone to the office to pick forms to contest the party’s chairmanship position at the upcoming National Delegates Conference.
The incident occurred on Friday, 4 April 2018, as Mr Sammy Crabbe, who was suspended in the lead-up to the 2016 general elections, along with then-NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko and then-General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, entered the headquarters to pay for his nomination forms with a banker’s draft.
However, a frenzied Madam Fati descended downstairs and threatened never to allow the party to sell the forms to Mr Crabbe or to allow the suspended party official back into the office.
The incident was recorded just a day after the celebration of World Press Freedom Day here in Ghana.
The NPP has condemned the attack after some section of the media threatened to blacklist the party and boycott its upcoming National Conference, should the governing NPP fail to condemn the attack.
The party in a statement signed by the Acting General Secreatry, John Boadu said: “The NPP has noted with concern an alleged attack on a journalist by one of its supporters, Hajia Fati. We distance ourselves from the act and condemn it unreservedly.
However, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa’s employers, Multimedia Group have threatened legal actions against the staunch NPP member.
But, controversial Hajia Fati has stated emphatically that - she is not perturbed by any legal action against her from the Multimedia Group where the battered journalist works.
“I am sorry for the attack. Journalists are my children. I am not pleading because I am afraid of any legal action. I am ever ready with my sponge and towel to meet her and multimedia in court. They should jail me if they can”, she said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’.

yea exactly, how can you take a shot of someone without his or her permission? i would have behave worse, journalist should demonstrate a bit of professionalism in their field of work. you cant just be taking pictures anyhow. i traveled out side Ghana and a white man from no where directed his camera towards me, i asked him if he is getting crazy? why taking a shot of me? he politely said he is sorry and showed to me his camera to verify. She could have reported the news without taking the shot if she don't want to seek permission. she is equally guilty so stop the hypocrisy and advise both than yelling insults on one side.
anytime I look at her picture, l laugh
It doesn’t give anyone the right to punch someone for taking pictures without informing. If you feel offended you can demand your picture be deleted politely or report the issue to the police. Civility is key in human societies.
THIS ALL DIE BE DIE ***barred word*** MUST STOP, AKUFO-ADDO IS BEHIND HER LAWLESSNESS, BECAUSE HE HIMSELF IS LAWLESS AND BARBARIC(HE ALWAYS WANTS TO VIOLENTLY GET WHATEVER HE WANTS)
Hypocrite Ghana pipo. How many of you wouldn't be offended if someone from nowhere comes to stand in front of you and start snapping pictures especially in your angry moment. Please be fair in your analysis. I am in no way condoning to Hajia's action but many of us could easily do what she did under the circumstance. Secondly, who watches over the watchmen? Some Ghanaian journalist are gradually losing their ethics. I am not a journalist but I believe their responsibility is to inform the populace on issues without attaching their personal bias or emotions on those issues. careful monitoring of most of our media people, you could feel their bias right from the first word that comes out of their mouth and that misdirect the whole discussion that follows. For example, a policy is introduced to correct a certain wrong in society and is a journalist goes to give airtime to those involved in the wrong to issue threats, what do you call that kind of journalism. After even a murderer will have a reason for killing which doesn't make killing right. Journalist should only be a conduit for passing information as it is and allow the public to make their own judgement. You don't sell your bias on the issue with emotions, gestures, expressions and commentaries.
I wish our judges would do the same thing they did to montie 3 to this barbaric woman. She thinks nana addo is behind her so she doesn't care. Montie 3 thought Mahama could save them but Sophia akuffo called their bluff. Some judge should call the bluff of this woman and put her in prison for a month and let see whether nana addo would pardon her. Woegimi paaaaaaaaa!
The Despite group and it's workers all have a soft spot for the NPP party , if u think adey lie just study their reportage and the workers pretty closely. only time will tell
the journalist should have introduced herself to her with her id card and shd have asked for permission, in this wicked world, u cant be taking pictures of people anyhow
@Why Always Multi-Media, I like what Captain Smart does. When Mahama was in giovernment, he showed the whole world the rot in his governemnt by refering corpiously to the auditor generals report. He is now using the same stretegy against the current government which is good for me so far. It is only showing that multi-media is doing the work that journalists shgould be doing. There is some level of CONSISTENCY and PRINCIPLE at least for now in their work as compared to the Kwaku Baarkos and Kwasi Pratts who havw sold their conscience. I will rather applaud multi-media than to condemn then because they are not ready as it appears to sweep news under the carpet and throw dust into our eyes. You see if there is rot going on in the government or political parties who Lord themselves over us are not using te correct channels to elect their leaders we have to know. So if multi-media is exposing these things we rather have to applaud them. The rest can continue to sleep in be with their pay masters. Folks it does not matter what my political affiliation is but when my brother or sister cannot afford Nursing training, eat during the period they are posted to national service or teacher training, afford rent during housemanship, pay for SSS years 2&3 and so on, it is incumbent upon me to chip in no matter who is in government and irrespective of my political affiliation. That is the problem. So wherever the rot is, we need to know. THAT IS WHAT JOURNALISM MEANT.
I am not in any way condoning the attacks on the Multi-Media Journalists but I think there should be some checks on these so called journalists especially at Adom FM. People speak at Adom FM as if they own Ghana especially that lady/ladies on the morning show with Captain Smart. You are to review News Papers in the Morning but these Village Champions from Berekum Cato speaks with Sentiments and attacks as if they are specialists on every field. Listen to that lady called AYB, ie Afia Boakyewaa Yiadom; she sounds so bad but it is as if there's no one watching over the workers at Multi-Media. She speaks as if she knows everything but I wish she will hear herself back and see how FOLLY she sounds. Watch your ways Multi-Media. Why not Despite Groups or any other Media Group? From the attacks at Police Headquarters to the NHIS to NPP HQ; what is it that could be done better? Sit your guys down and give them the Ethics of Journalism.
