US-based law professor, Kwaku Asare thinks that former President John Mahama should not attempt to run for office again.
According to him, Mr Mahama has already served the country in various capacities, including as a Member of Parllament, Minister, Vice President and President and he should now use his cumulative knowledge and experience to write a book and serve as a statesman.
In a Facebook post, reacting to Mr Mahama's indication on Saturday that he would contest to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Election 2020, Prof Asare said: “I firmly believe that people should be free to run for any office."
"However, if ex President John Dramani Mahama asked me for advice on whether to run for office in 2020, I will urge him not to on grounds that he has already served the country in various capacities, including as MP, Minister, VP and President and he should now use his cumulative knowledge and experience to write a book and to serve as a statesman.
“Please note that this is free, unsolicited and non-professional advice that is not binding on the ex President or anyone else. Da Yie!” Prof. Asare stated in the Facebook post.
Mr Mahama in a Facebook post on Saturday indicated his interest to contest and lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) after a massive defeat in 2016.
“To you the teeming supporters and sympathizers calling and requesting me to declare my intentions for the future, I wish to assure you today, that as a servant-leader, I have listened to your calls and reflected,” Mahama wrote.
“I will not disappoint you even as we await the publication of the party’s guidelines for selecting a new leader,” he added.
Mr Mahama will be facing competition from four of his former appointees, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former UPSA Vice Chancellor, Professor Joshua Alabi, former NHIA Chief Executive, Mr Sylvester Mensah and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban S.K. Bagbin.

Elected Former president Mahama means ,Ghanaians are asking him to run the country only 4 years which all of us know very well that 6 years is not enough to turn around the country. so why should we vote for such a candidate? It will bw a greatest mistake on Ghanaians to vote for again to steal and kill business as done over the years.
Ppl like Salifu Fudia Sidik should rather enroll for free shs. rather than coming here to portray ignoran^mus. lol
Nkrumah was made a cannibalist by this same UP/NPP cabal. They have a way of turning angel into a devil. They tell u mahama is a ***barred word*** when u ask them what he has stolen they dont know yet the man is ***barred word***. The advantage we have here is that, whiles Ghanaian had no chance to correct the mistake over nkrumah due to blackmail of the UP/NPP we now have the chance to correct their lies on john mahama . Thank God Mahama is back 84
How can kwaku Azar, an Azan man advice a former president. If Mahama is elected as president, he will be one of the best because he will never repeat his mistakes again and will surely be careful of the people who let him down. In life we turn to learn from experience and i know John Mahama will do better job next time round.
People should leave John Mahama alone to make his own decisions. If he is able to win the 2020 elections then he will go down in the history books all over the world as the first person with such a questionable record to unseat a ruling party. If he fails, he will still enter the history books as a former president who people will always remember with negative platitudes. So either way he will still be remembered -After all people still remember Richard Nixon.
greediness will not let him consider ur advise. and his blind supporters will also continue to urge him. he already has a weak resume and the 2020 defeat will completely destroy him to the extent that not even the remotest village in Ghana will invite him for any occasion.
No we still need him to be our leader, so give him a break, because he nows what we the good people of our country need n we appreciated in his team in office n we need him back there badly, because Akofo Addo the so called president is move back our country because he doesnt now what it takes to bee a president n he is struckling to take care of as but no where to go or state
