The former President, John Dramani Mahama, has decried the abandonment of projects, especially in the road sector, since the assumption of office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
He said: “We did a lot of work in the extension of water and road construction. All the roads that we started have come to a standstill and my heart bleeds for the Eastern Corridor road.
However long it takes, I assure you that the next NDC government will come and finish that Eastern Corridor road.”
Addressing the last of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Unity Walk at Aflao Victory Park in the Ketu South Constituency last Saturday, the former President indicated that the next NDC government would have firm focus on the development needs of the region, which continues to be the world bank of the party.
He declared that a new government of the NDC would be committed to the development of the Volta Region.
The region, according to Mr Mahama, deserved a lot attention in terms of development from an NDC-led government for its unfettered support for the party over the years.
“I want to make a commitment to you that whoever leads a new NDC government in 2021 will be committed wholly to the development of the region,” he stated, but touted some key legacies of the previous NDC-led government in the region, including the establishment of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
Party supporters
Several hundreds of party supporters from various constituencies, together with their leadership from the regional and national levels, as well as ex-appointees and parliamentarians, embarked on the over two-hour Unity Walk from Tokor through Denu to the Aflao Victory Park, where they were addressed by some party stalwarts- including the General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Flag bearer hopeful, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.
Dr Spio-Garbrah took a swipe at the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration, describing it as a deceitful government which had failed to fulfil its promises to Ghanaians.
He indicated: “They promised us one-district, one-factory, one-constituency, one-factory; can you point to one of those factories in the Volta Region; what about the one million dollars? These should tell you that the NPP is failing and only bringing hardship to the pockets of Ghanaians.”
He, however, called on the rank and file of the NDC to remain resolute to the reorganisation of the party structures to enable them to recapture power in the 2020 election.

The Road from Asikuma (especially Peki) to Hohoe is very bad. Nobody is talking about it. Ford bribe taking Mahama didn't ensure that it is completed. Am sure all die be die Nana Addo will also not complete it and will start working on it in the election year. Voltarians, forget about it and suffer. They have all neglected you.
Did you start any project at the Volta Region at all? Kuffour built three interchanges in Kumasi. What can you point to in the Volta Region?
This Mahama man does not cease to amaze people. NPP tries to continue projects he left behind and he accuses them of plagiarism. The next moment he turns round to say that the NPP has abandoned projects he left behind. This Mahama man is consistently inconsistent. I don't think he should be taken serious at all. I pity the educated ones following him who take a lot of pains trying to rationalise what he says. Where are his advisors?
What is this ford bribe taker Rawlings referred as a rogue talking? Now that you need the votes of the people from the Volta Region you are pretending.... Too late....
