Former Deputy Minister for Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has reiterated earlier assertions by some organisations and persons that government is to blame for current mishaps at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, accuses government of intentionally frustrating efforts by concern stakeholders in bringing matters to rest at KNUST which will lead to the reopening of the University to students.
“Government's conduct or shall we be more honest and call it misconduct in deliberately stifling an amicable resolution of the KNUST imbroglio only goes as far as to confirm that Government has indeed been the problem all along,” he indicated in a statement posted on his Facebook wall.
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, said failure to restore the old council of KNUST on the expected date which was November 2, 2018 clearly exposes government’s unwillingness to support stakeholders to find lasting solution to the dispute.
He said, “Per the road map agreed with key stakeholders after Government’s abortive coup, KNUST’s University Council ought to have been restored last Friday the 2nd of November, 2018. This would have given us concrete hope that by this week students could be returning to a re-opened campus. Further stalemate and more harm especially to KNUST’s international image would thus have been avoided.”
The legislator further questioned government’s intention to meddle in the selection of persons to represent UTAG, TEWU, SRC, GRASAG and other bodies on the University's Council.
While expressing shock at the inability of government to reinstate the old University Council, Mr. Ablakwa indicated that the dissolution was an “unlawful action”.
“If Government succeeds with this, what next? Would Government now decide who are elected as leaders/executive of these entities? Would Government begin to determine which lecturer and or member of staff gets promoted? Would Government henceforth control or place fetters on the kind of research permitted in our higher institutions of learning? Would Government then determine who gets admission into KNUST and other universities for that matter?” Mr. Ablakwa quizzed.

2020 go come p333
Hahaha! NDC, NPP politics in Ghana. Funny, you brought 4 old members to the 7 member interim council. Part of their mandate is also to do some investigations in which about 60% of the interim council member are involved. After resistance from unions you made a turn. SHAME confused government. You still want to show power! You said you've asked Otumfuo to lead in the resolution process setting dates and you are trying to impede him. For fairness sake, National Security, Education(Dr. & Prof.) Ministers must all be asked to step aside or changed for new faces to come even the President. National Security Minister failed to pick the intelligence for the act of vandalism that happened. The Education Ministers on various platforms praised the hall conversion which is the remote cause of the criminal acts that happened on 22nd October 2018.
Government Council? The partisan council rejected by well meaning Ghanaians you mean?? @Darko; easy okay. @?? Another dimension worth interrogating. God bless our honorable VCs. Universities, our only pride indeed. Cool heads should prevail. I think honorable Ablakwa raised some very thoughtful questions. We need to shield our only dignity left from this military era. @?? 'Militracy'....updating Wikipedia now.
Has the honorable MP, Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa ever read about Conflict Resolution by truce? Where the hostilities of which, in this case, the favored Vice Ch. and his council a party and the student, on the other hand, a party. the Government here a Stakeholder and therefore has a stake in protecting the properties of the State Ghana. Any good-minded Ghanaian who sees Ghana first and has no parochial interest of partisan propaganda, populism, and polemics will do away with such politicking and see to the utmost interest of resolving this problem. The initiation of the independent Council by the Government in terms of Conflict Resolution in the interim was in the right direction, then the Government is a stakeholder has to react promptly to avoid a further mess. Yet honorable men of the NDC have lost their reasons.
Why is government failing to know that it is in a hole. It is still digging. How can you say that a constituency cannot decided who represents them? Whether you like the reps or not is immaterial. Who said the other constituencies are happy with the reps of government. What is that weak argument they are making? Some people were on the council and as such cannot be on it again because you think there was something wrong. That is your opinion. What of those who are also more interested in the other good things that happened or were done by the council and for that matter they want those reps to continue? If you want to exclude based on negativity, you cannot say someone cannot include based on positivity. I dont want to believe that government does not even know that its position does not add up?. GOVERNMENT MUST STOP PREVENTING THE STUDENTS FROM RETURNING TO SCHOOL.
HMMMMM....who is the 'd3d got' here? some claimed it, other are acting it. Nana Addo must pull the hand break on the numerous constitutional coupes. This is not democracy. Free SHS is good thing though. All governments are committed, but when there growing concerns of the mode of implementation and you do not listen, na wahala. The truth of the whole nons3nse is this: Government wants all the higher institutions to unanimously support this beautiful mess and to further claim they're preparedness to embrace free tertiary education. something they're not interested in...why because they thing that the mode of implementation will backfire and they want it reviewed. This is the whole catalyst. For that matter, clear every one in the way. Remember it started with heads of basic school where now all of them have shrinked balls, they dare not talk again. But not the universities please. That is our only pride as a country. please and please again, nana addo, please accord some resect to the high office of the land. you have become too dirty. we know you're going in 2020, but please leave us in peace, just us you met us. This milicracy, not democracy...
Save us NDC NPP, we are tired of you guys. Politicizing every single ***barred word*** and in the end, nothing gets done right in this country. To go blunt; your government dey ***barred word***. From free SHS to coupes.....What a beautiful mess!!!!! Some claimed the ***barred word*** syndrome, others are auctioning it. I pray for life to see 2020
There are growing concerns here in Kumasi and I'm sure it must the same around the globe. To our dismay, Akuffo Addo, a lawyer and an apostle in the rule of law has dirtied his hands too many times. From UCC, to UEW, to TP, to EC, etc...and not to KNUST. The pride of asanteman is that Asantehene must succeed at all cost. If government does not sit up, youth revolution will start from Kumasi. Some students will be on side of government for they're lack of insight, but the youth of asante and asanteman for that matter will be on the side of the King. Why would government want to dictate to everybody? is this democracy? akuffo addo, is this what you learnt at 'oxford'?? And Ablakwa is very right. If this trend is not checked, government will now decide who gets admitted to higher institutes of learning. Why, because the VC, Teachers, HODs, Deans, SRC presidents, All the boards for that matter will be decided by government. What all this?? Setting the constitution aside and in Rambo style, do whatever you wish is a coupe. And I think Ablakwa is spot on on this. Akuffo Addo, it isn't too late, you can salvage a little bit of decency to your presidency. It is that baad!!!!!
You and I know very well that there is not an iota of truth in what you have said so far. It is a mere wishful thinking based on frustration, mischief and baseless propaganda symptomatic of NDC's fit of hysteria, coughing lies here and there all over the place in the name of Opposition. Forgetting that the excesses of same make the NDC as opposition Party impotent, incompetent and counterproductive in his core mandate, as a potential Government of better alternative policies as against that of the Ruling Party. I wished NDC would keep her own counsel, which would reflect their choice of a Flagbearer capable of transforming the whole mindset of the Party of its current poor and counterproductive performance, as an opposition party akin to the true principles of democracy.
