The Deputy Minister for Regional Re-organization and Development, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah says he has seen a total of 120 petitions asking for regional capitals in the newly created 6 regions.
According to him, most of the petitions which are addressed to the President are mostly seen on social media.
He is therefore asking Chiefs and concerned citizens of the newly created regions to desist from petitioning the President for where regional capitals of the newly created regions must be sited.
He says the President will in consultation with the council of state determine where the regional capitals are sited.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that, the ministry has seen some social media petitions from the various regions demanding for regional capitals.
He noted that it does not lie with the petitioners to demand for regional capitals.
"They should just exercise patience," he added.
The creation of six new regions received a massive ‘Yes” endorsement by voters who partook in the exercise on December 27, 2018.
The referendum came off successfully in all areas, although the counting process was extended to the next morning.
Results indicate that out of the total 207,343 votes cast in the Savannah area of the Northern region, 206,350 voted YES, representing 99.7 per cent, with only 647 voting NO, representing 0.3 per cent.
The proposed North East region from the Northern region also saw a total of 205,121 YES votes (99.8%) in favour of the new region while 447 voted NO.
In the Brong Ahafo region, 448,545 voters representing 99.5 per cent of the total votes cast voted YES for the Bono East region to be created as against 1,384 people, representing 0.3 per cent going for NO.
Meanwhile, 99.67 per cent of the voters endorsed the creation of the Ahafo region after 276,763 voted YES.
Those who voted against the creation of the Ahafo region were only 675 representing 0.24 per cent of the total votes.
For the proposed the Western North region, 22,048 voted YES as against 751 voting NO.

The Bono East Capital to be cited between Nkoranza and Pru or Atebubu should be properly and so well plan to befit and become the future capital of Ghana.
Government should move away from the Old towns to build new towns as the new cities with modern plan and arrandements for the new regions. I therefore suggest these placese: Ahafo, Between Acherasua and Hwidiem Sefhwi Near Wiaso Oti Betwee Kadjebi and Kete Krachi Sahara near Damango Northern East near Walewale Brong East between Nkoranza and Pru
Illogical. If they petition the president for the regions, why can't they petition the president for the regional capital? NPP Hypocrites.
Noooo! Government should reject every existing town as a regional capitals. The greatest gift this government can give these new regions and thereby cement the name of this President in the memory of the people is to build the capitals from the scratch. That to me is what development should mean.
