Former President John Dramani Mahama has questioned the selective conduct of some Civil Society Organisations in the country, especially on issues of national importance.
He noted that some Civil Society Organisations have developed a cold attitude for commenting on many important national issues including human rights, since the beginning of the Akufo-Addo government even though they were very vocal during the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing NDC delegates at Anloga in the Anlo constituency, as part of his flagbearership campaign tour of the Volta Region, John Mahama expressed misgivings about the double standards of some of the civil society organisations.
He, for instance, wondered why his statement that the NDC will defend the constitution of Ghana after Thursday's violent attacks and gunfire on NDC members and supporters in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, has attracted criticism from some Civil Society Organisation leaders.
He pointed out that Ghana belongs to all Ghanaians, adding that all sides of the political divide must be treated equally.
John Mahama also urged the police not to shield the New Patriotic Party’s rampaging hoodlums who injured scores of NDC members during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election in Accra.
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to apologise to the nation for saying the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will match the governing New Patriotic Party boot-for-boot with violence in the 2020 polls.
While addressing NDC delegates in the Adaklu Constituency of the Volta Region on Thursday, 31 January 2019, Mr Mahama said the NDC will match the NPP boot-for-boot in the 2020 elections if the government attempts to intimidate and harass NDC supporters with violence.
The former President’s comment followed a shooting incident at the La-Bawaleshie JHS polling station in the course of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election on the same day.
The NDC accused the NPP of being behind the shooting.

This Mahama man needs to wake up. So the CSOs should criticize because, in his opinion, the issues have to be criticized? What if the CSOs do not see it that way? Anyway, his government and governance style left much to be desired and hence attracted those criticisms. He wasn't in control of anything, just loose and communicators were throwing rubbish at Ghanaians as if we were not living in this country. He should get a life cos he's become very irrelevant to some of us.His party would suffer a worse defeat if they should present him again. Ghanaians know what they want!!!
This Peace Council Man needs to be born again.
NDC: throughout your 27 year rule from the revolution to the last incompetent president JDM, Ghanaians have suffered a lot ; from the frogging of women in the open market areas to the killings of innocent people including a lactating Supreme Court mother. We are not going to sit down to turn Ghana into your ***barred word*** tactics. Next time no one will dare bring anybody to any polling station to cause mayhem. They will crash such trouble makers right at the source before it spreads out.
You are very right JDM. Most of them were sheeps in wolves skin, they were paid by Npp to make noise and spew lies, bit God would punish all of them, for been quiet especially the Presbyterian moderator,
This John mahama has short memory! has he forgotten so soon about the Talensi dress rehearsal for 2016? has he forgotten violence begat violence ,has he forgot we came from revolution so we are experts in violence? if not John mahama I never knew ndc members were part of those who staged that revolution! somebody tell John mahama Capt Koda was a member of the revolution but NPP man, Tell him Capt Okai Koi was a member of the revolution but NPP man even those who staged the 1981 coup some are NPP so what is he talking about! good and brave soldiers don't brag only ***barred word*** and cowards ndc shouldn't think they only have the key to violence, and when violence is coming to them they runaway to their Headquarters to cry! Now,look at the way they throwing themselves about after receiving some hefty slaps and running away they are far away talking like they are men and brave ! John mahama should stop behaving like he is a flagbearer already, disgusting man ! take your ndc away from Ghana we don't want you, ndc will lose every election they participate in Ghana!
