The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a firm stand not to ‘allow’ its National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to respond to another invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Ofosu Ampofo has been invited again to respond to allegations of kidnapping and involvement in recent fire outbreaks in the country.
“The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into cases of kidnapping and fire outbreaks in various parts of the country. Intelligence gathered indicates that some of these kidnappings and fire outbreaks are being orchestrated by unidentified groups, persons and individuals. Some of the persons picked up for interrogation and investigation have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country,” a portion of a communique from the CID read.
Responding to this in an interview on UTV Evening News, Wednesday, Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the NDC said the party has decided not to honor the invitation.
"We are law-abiding but that does not mean we can be cowered . . . what is going on is clear harassment and intimidation . . . these things normally happen in Libya. We are telling Tiwaa and Nana Addo that enough is enough. There is no way he is going to respond to their invitation. NDC will not allow Chairman Ofosu Ampofo to go to the police headquarters today nor tomorrow," he said.

TIWAA: A TUAA WO YONKO HUA, CAN YOU REMEMBER YOUR LEAKED TAPE, WHERE DID THAT CASE END. HYPOCRISY ALL THE WAY. THIS IS PURELY TO HUMILIATE THE NDC. A PLANNED THING TO BRING DOWN THE WEIGHT OF THE NDC, IF THEY GET THE HEAD THE TAIL WILL WAG. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 'ALL DIE BE DIE' STATEMENT, THE 'LETS' KILL ALL GAS AND EWES STATEMENT, WERE WE NOT ALL IN THIS COUNTRY
what is wrong with this guy is about time our leaders in the party put this guy in to order he is creating too much problems for our party plsssssss
"No one is above the law" The law must take ist Course. Please, the whole world is watching Ghana and the Operation of the legal System in Ghana. Ghana must prove that ist legal System can work and no one is above the law. Thank You
HOW MANY TIMES HAS KENNEDY AGYAPONG BEEN ARESTED FOR MAKING PUBLIC COMMENTS THAT GAS AND EWES MUST BE KILLED? HOW MANY TIMES HAS KENNEDY AGYAPONG BEEN ARESTED FOR PUBLICLY INCITING OTHERS TO KILL THE JOUNALIST IN MADINA? THESE WERE ALL OPEN PUBLIC PRONOUNCEMENTS KENNEDY AGYAPONG MADE NOT EVEN IN A HIDDEN ROOM. VERILY, VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, NPP AND NANA ADDO, THAT THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE NPP IN GHANAIAN POLITICS.
I HAVE SAID BEFORE THAT THIS IS THE MOST HOPELESS EXECUTIVE NDC HAS EVER HAD THROUGHOUT ITS EXISTENCE. NO DECORUM,HOPELESSLY INCOMPETENT AND FOR SURE I CAN SAY FOR A FACT THAT THE NDC CANNOT RAN A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN FOR 2020 AND MAY BE LUCKY WITH 30% OF POPULAR VOTES. LOOK AT THE MESS THEY ARE CREATING FOR THEMSELVES - THE CHAIRMAN, THE GENERAL SECRETARY, COMMUNICATIONS DISASTER GUY AS FOR THE ORGANISER TOTALLY LOST IN THE MELEE. POOR NDC. PAPA J IS JUST LAUGHING IN HIS BEDROOM PAA.
PLOTTING OF KIDNAPPINGS AND CAUSING VIOLENCE HERE AND THERE , NDC DO NOT REASON.
SOMEBODY GO SEE N LEVEL,, WHETHER IGO REPORT OR NOT WE GO SEE.WHY WOULD HE NOT REPORT IF HE IS INNOCENT?
I think Sammy Gyamfi should have toned down his rhetoric on this very issue. His effusions were uncalled for. Chairman Ampofo can just ignore the police and go there on his own volition on Monday morning so that the trap the Ghana police have set for him to get there just before the weekend so that they may get the chance to detain him over the weekend will not materialise. Alternatively, he can send his lawyers there tomorrow and delay appearing there in person tomorrow and Friday. He can also get a medical report for anything to also delay his appearance at the CID headquarters till Monday morning. Now the police should be ashamed for making such a request. This is clearly politically motivated. A first year law student or who ever has attended the police college where they are taught criminal law and its procedure will know that there is no causal link between what Ampofo is denying and those eventualities. If the police are really making this claim, then the police college syllabus need to be reviewed. Our law schools from the faculties to the legal practice course should shut down. It is a disgrace. Our police should not let their professionalism go down the drain like this. I am not surprised that they are not respected by society at large. Today people can beat up police people in uniforms because they see how politicians use them and even how they are in cahoots with criminals. The government realise their case in court is faltering badly. Their own facts are not right therefore they have to inject a lie to keep it going. How can you say someone was at the meeting where it shows clearly that at that very time, the person was in Kumasi in the open doing party business? Is it lazy policing or prosecution? This case is much a do about nothing but just a political trial.
I doubt if this Sammy Gyemfi guy is truly a lawyer. Attacking the very law that made you a lawyer, beside is Ofosu Ampofo above the law. Will advise the police to use every reasonable force, even if it calls for Rambo style to arrest him if Ofosu Ampofo refuses to come, no one is bigger than the constitution of Ghana
I wonder what will happen when the NDC comes to power. Will they be able to really govern comfortably? I have my doubts because they are setting a precedent for a very difficult governance system for themselves in future. If you truly believe in our legal systems why don't you go through the process calmly with you team of lawyers rather than acting arrogantly. Remember you will one day come to power and expect people to respect the institutional structures of the state. Be wise.
