Reports reaching Peacefmonline.com indicates that National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has been arrested by personnel from the Ghana Police Service.
The NDC National Chair, according to DGN Online portal, was arrested this afternoon in Accra apparently in connection with alleged arson and kidnappings in Ghana.
DGN Online is informed that Mr. Ofosu Ampofo had been hopping from hotel to hotel and has refused to stay home after getting wind of his likely arrest after a high court issued an arrest warrant.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had earlier raised alarm that Government was making moves to arrest its National Chairman.
According to the opposition party, it (NDC) had learnt that the government, using the security agencies, has obtained a court warrant in the past few days for the arrest of our national Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.”
The NDC made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, June 9, 2019, and signed by its Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah.
The statement indicated “we have further learnt that the security agencies intend to do this apparently in conjunction with elements of NPP vigilante forces and that they intend to arrest the Chairman in a manner aimed at lowering him in the esteem of Ghanaians.”
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is standing trial over a leaked tape in which a voice purported to be his is heard calling for political kidnappings and assassinations of some persons in Ghana.
Ever since there had been several cases of kidnappings and market fires which the police had report linking the NDC chairman to some of the cases.
In the leaked audio, the NDC Chairman is heard purportedly declaring ruthless war against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
There has been series of kidnappings since the leaked tape surfaced. Three girls from Takoradi in the Western Region have remained in captivity since they were kidnapped some months ago.
An Indian businessman was kidnapped in Kumasi some weeks ago.
And recently, two Canadian women were kidnapped in Kumasi as well.
It would be recalled that some weeks ago, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service once again invited Mr. Ofosu Ampofo for ‘questioning’ as the CID claimed that suspects that have so far been arrested in connection with kidnappings and arson had mentioned Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s name as the ‘mastermind’ behind the two mentioned crimes.

Breaking News: 3 Takoradi Kidnapped Girls In Accra April 23, 2019 The victims INFORMATION REACHING DGN Online indicates that the three kidnapped girls from Takoradi have been rescued. They are reportedly undergoing medical examination at an undisclosed health facility in Accra, DGN Online can confirm. The girls, Ruth Quayson, Priscilla Blessing Bentum and Priscilla Koranchie are believed to have been kidnapped between August 2018 and January 2019. The main suspect in the kidnapping, Sam Udoetuk Wills is currently before the Takoradi Magistrate Court after he escaped from jail in December 2018 following his first arrest. Over the weekend, parents of the girls demonstrated in Takoradi, in demand for their children. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service recently said it had identified the whereabouts of the three girls. “After months of investigations together with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the whereabouts of the three victims are now known,” the Director General in-charge of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah said at a news conference. She said: “we are working together with other stakeholders to bring them back safely.” But she later declined to give further details. Her refusal to disclose the whereabouts of the girls caused the public to criticize her with some even doubting if indeed the security agency knew about the location of the girls. BY Melvin Tarlue Takoradi kidnapped girls: 'We know where they are' – CID boss Source: Ghana|myjoyonline.com|[email protected] Date: 02-04-2019 Time: 10:04:18:am The Police say they have discovered the whereabouts of three girls kidnapped last year at Takoradi and are closer to bringing them home. “We know where the girls are,” the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah told reporters Tuesday. She appealed to families of the victims to “keep on keeping on.” The families have been desperate for news of their daughters and their whereabouts since Priscilla Bentum was kidnapped in August 2018 – the first of the three kidnappings. Two more girls were grabbed in December before the story grabbed nationwide attention. Joy News has launched a #bringbackourTaadigirls campaign. A suspect in the case, a Nigerian named Samuel Udoetuk Wills was assaulted in and outside court the last time he appeared March 4, 2019. Photo: Samuel Udoetuk Wills [R] needed police protection in court. But it was not enough to stop an assault on him. The CID boss while confident of wrapping up the saga also urged patience assuring the public, “they are safe...very soon they will be brought back home”. She declined to give details of their location, explaining “we don’t want to compromise their safety”. But Rebecca Quayson, a sister to one of the victims cast doubt about the police’ assurances. “I don’t believe it”, she told JoyNews Midday. She explained, her mother was on the phone with DCOP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah only yesterday. Rebecca Quayson said during the entire conversation, none of the disclosures at the press conference was relayed to the desperate woman. She demanded to hear at least the voice of his sister as proof of progress otherwise they will just have to wait until they see their sister “face to face.” Takoradi Kidnapping: I know the whereabouts of the girls but...- Owusu Bempah Date: 07 May 2019 By Mutala Yakubu Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, founder of Glorious Word and Power Ministry International, says he knows the whereabout of the Takoradi kidnapped girls but will only disclose when called by president Akufo-Addo. His comments come on the back of moves by the minority to drag the Inspector General of Police [IGP] David Asante Apeatu to Parliament to answer questions on the whereabouts of some three girls kidnapped in Takoradi in the Western Region. Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu says he will file a motion to bring the IGP to the august House to answer some questions about the missing girls. After almost nine months, Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, 15, Ruth Love Quayson, 18, and Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21 have still not been found. The main suspect in the kidnapping Samuel Udoetuk Wills was jailed to 18 months in prison last week for breaking cell. He has still not been able to lead the police to the whereabout of these girls. Families of the girls also called off a planned demonstration. According to the spokesperson of the families, Michael Hayford Grant their decision to call off the demonstration is as a result of assurances given to them by Child Rights International and the Ghana Police on finding the girls.
SHAME UNTO NPP, INSTEAD OF ARRESTING ARMED ROBBERS AND OTHER CRIMINALS, YOU ARE CHASING ARMLESS POLITICIANS.YOU WILL GO ,COME 2020 AND WE SHALL SEE.
On a social platform like peacefmonline, people must reason and understand that common sense guides everybody when making comments about issues such as the arrest of the Church elder and Chairman of NDC. The man is guilty and he has to be arrested. A clear sign that government of NPP is not afraid of the NDC or its hired people who keep spilling lies as if they speak from their bellys. GOVERNMENT HAS ARRESTED OFOSU AMPOFO WHO USED TO BE A PHOTOGRAPHER THOSE DAYS SO LET ANY ***barred word*** NDC PERSON SPILL RUBBISH AND THAT PERSON OR THOSE PERSONS WILL BE ARRESTED TOO.
If a 'common' citizen had made those comments he will not be walking. Ofosu Ampofo is not above the laws of Ghana. He is not more Ghanaian than anybody. His only privilege is that he is a party chairman. If the police invites you for questioning and you don't show up, they have every right to arrest you. Listening to Ade Coker and Sammy Gyamfi for legal advice is not particularly wise.
