President Akufo-Addo on July 1 ordered Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to begin formal engagements with the IMF.
In a statement signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the engagement will be to invite the Fund to support an economic program put together by government.
“The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorised Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to commence formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), inviting the Fund to Support an economic program put together by the Government of Ghana,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, there are fears that one of the conditions from the Fund might be to suspend the Free SHS policy.
However, Awal Mohammed, a member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has allayed such fears insisting that it won't.

Awal, you don't hold any key position in government , you are just a mere party supporter, so be careful not to hold brief for this government . The finance minister and his deputy who know what is in the kitty told the whole world that going to IMF have dire consequences and that Ghanaians were a proud people, we have the capacity, we have the resources. Hear his deputy; 'we are not going to IMF today , we are not going to IMF tomorrow as long as the NPP remains in power' . Less than a month after these speeches, where are they heading towards now. Currently the NPP appointees don't even trust themselves , so they will see you as a funny person if you trust them. They never practice what they preach. What a solid government , with solid ministers, MMDCEs , CEO's , solid presidential staffers, everything in this government is solid. Even their water is solid so it won't melt for you to quench your taste. Try me, we have tried you and your performance is an eye disease which can be seen by all , unlike stomach ache which is hidden. Or the Akuffo Addo we know since 2008 is not same Akuffo Addo as president ? Awal, if you have a rotten teeth in your mouth, you chew with caution. Okay
Road tolls will not come back. E-levy is working fine. Free shs will not be touched. We are a proud country and will not go to IMF. much of what u hear is just ndc lies.
