There was pandemonium at the NPP Headquarters in Accra as Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia filed and submitted his nomination forms today to contest the NPP Flagbearership for the 2024 elections.
Tens of thousands of NPP supporters and Bawumia enthusiasts trooped into the Headquarters early in the morning with many lining up the streets in Asylum Down where the NPP Headquarters is situated amidst singing, chanting and dancing as they awaited the arrival of the Vice President for the historic moment.
As Dr. Bawumia arrived and his wife, Samira, arrived in a bus with a powerful entourage including about 120 NPP Members of Parliament, the entourage had a difficult time walking through the milling crowd to get inside the party office for the filing.
The ecstatic crowd consisting the young and old and, clad in NPP paraphernalia, made it virtually impossible for the Vice President to walk through to file his nomination to contest the flagbearer race.
It took his security detail and other security personnel present to help, although not without struggle, to get the charged crowd to pave way for Dr. Bawumia and his wife.
He was cheered on with songs of endorsement and appreciation of his work for the party and government as he walked slowly into the party Headquarters.
As the Vice President arrived at the headquarters, he had another hard time before he could meet the party officials for the filing and submission of his nomination form and as he was successfully going through the process, the party supporters continued to sing songs in support of him.
After submitting his form, Dr. Bawumia mounted a podium to address the mammoth crowd and announced his vision for the country when he becomes President of Ghana.
Before outlining his policies, he took the crowd through his life journey, telling them his humbling experience as a school boy in Moshie Zongo in Tamale, as a cleaner in school and a cab driver abroad.
He also told the crowd how he has been honest, dedicated and worked very hard for the NPP and government, listing a number of policy initiatives he has helped to implement as Vice President.
The Bawumia vision
Dr. Bawumia shifted his attention to what he called his own policies to take Ghana to the next level.
"I have my own vision for Ghana. I believe that it is time to move Ghana to the next level by building on the foundations we have put in place so far," he said amidst huge cheers from the gathering.
He continued; "Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth. I want to make Ghana the digital hub of Africa. I want us to bridge the digital divide and apply digital technology and artificial intelligence for the transformation of healthcare, education, and public service delivery amongst others."
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with an education system tilted towards STEM, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, digital and vocational skills to cope with the demands of fourth Industrial Revolution."
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we cater and care for the the poor, vulnerable, excluded and sick people."
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we attain food security in the shortest possible time through the application of science, data, Artificial Intelligence, Satellite, Internet of Things (IOT) and irrigation to commercial farming. We will also complete the ongoing digitalization of data on all farms across the 16 Regions."
The Vice President added; "Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we maximize the benefits from our natural resources like gold and lithium through policies like, value addition, setting up an LBMA certified gold refinery, enhancing the gold for oil policy, and dedication of specific gold concessions to the Bank of Ghana to enhance their accumulation of gold reserves."
"Together with you, I want to see Ghana as an industrialized nation. I want to entrench and enhance the current strategy of industrialization that we have embarked on and introduce new technology like digital manufacturing for the manufacturing of spare parts, syringes, and other equipment."
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with robust fiscal discipline in the management of our public finances to sustainably and significantly reduce bank lending rates."
He further stated that "together with you, I want to see a Ghana with an empowered local business sector, especially startups and SMEs to drive investment and growth. We will transform the SME landscape by providing unique identifiers and using technology to help them access new financing and markets. I also want to provide incentives to the private sector to replace government in the provision of a significant amount of infrastructure and many other services".
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with a developed and efficient credit system through credit scoring by credit reference agencies by leveraging on integrated databases across banks, DVLA, NIA, Digital Address systems etc. to enable workers buy furniture, cars, TVs, fridges and homes (mortgages) on credit at lower cost."
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with energy self-sufficiency at reduced cost through solar and other renewables with the application of market efficiency to the energy market."
"Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with an enhanced focus on private and public investment in tourism, creative arts and sports."
"This is not an exhaustive list and in due course we will have a chance to lay out a comprehensive Manifesto for Ghanaians", Dr. Bawumia assured the gathering of an elaborate vision for the country.
After stating his vision, Dr. Bawumia called for massive support for his candidacy and vision, reiterating his unparalleled dedication to the NPP in the past two decades.
"In the last 22 years, I have worked hard with you for the NPP and for Ghana from during the Kufuor era as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, through our years in opposition and now in government. During this period, I have sacrificed for the party, I have defended the party in good times and in challenging times, I have never wavered nor slacked. Never! and I have built a solid track record of performance as Vice President and unflinching loyalty to our party and government through rain or shine", he said.
The crowd that greeted Dr. Bawumia today is an emphatic signal, without a shred of doubt, that he is the best man to come up tops in the NPP flagbearership race.

To continue what ? Let the people follow and chop the money some .With the current attitude of leaders party . Turning the laws to their favor , Very greedy and selfish leadership , they want to get money every time even if they are out of government so making some dubious contracts, intimidation , spending most revenues of taxes on leadership etc. The only person in NPP who has good heart for Ghanaians is Kennedy Agyapong .If anything the delegates should vote for him Nana Addo is disappointment to the youth of Ghana .
@Dan, I’m with you but trust Bawumia to win back the public support. The way and manner he puts how he was brought up in Moshie Zongo, having his education at Sakasaka primary school resonated with the masses of Ghana. Bawumia is not just a talented politician but he is gifted as well. This is how the Ndc is against his candidacy. I wonder if Bawumia is a weak candidate because he is the vice in a struggling government then why is Kwasi Pratt and the so-called neutral pundits who we know are aligned with the Ndc are against Bawumia’s candidacy. Bawumia will do the job. It is possible and the battle still remains the Lord’s.
My brother Bawumia. Most likely to win the presidential primaries of the NPP. However as presidential candidate of the NPP you have work to do ooooo, plenty of work. Winning back the trust and confidence of the ordinary Ghanaian voter in the street including some NPP supporters is not going to be easy. My brother , people are not happy. John Mahama is detinitely not the alternative. Unfortunately some people who think the NPP is their personal property have acted in ways that has come to make John Mahama and his appointees look like saints. But for these , where will John Mahama bank his hopes on to think he can come back to the presidency 8 years after leaving office. He has seen that the actions and inactions of the NPP has given him a lots of hope. How will it look like if Akuffo Addo were to hand over to Mahama in January 2025? If it so happens , the Ghanaian people will be sending a message that John Mahama with all his errors is still far better. It's like removing the spark plugs of your car and replacing them with brand new ones only to go back to the mechanic in a few days times asking for the ones you changed and when asked what is wrong the driver says the old ones are far better, can you imagine. At times I pity my brother Bawumia, within him I know he may not be happy with some happenings in the government , unfortunately he's not the final authority, he has a master. To the NDC he cannot be pardoned, for those in the NPP they know some forces are not given him space. It's just that master elephant even though it has all the usual big ears of an elephant it doesn't listen. At best it hears but won't listen. Check NAT GEO Wild on dstv, when you see hyenas surrounding an elephant in an attempt to bring it down, they have seen some weaknesses in the elephant. This is exactly what is happening to the 2017 elephant.
Ei Ghana nie. There noor, Bawumia is a gem. You’re so NPP you refuse to even distance yourself from rot . You’re using slogans and still want to sway the ordinary Ghanaian ? That’s very bad
Bawumia,is a gem,gift for Ghana...next to lead,best to lead!
