Oscar winners won't have to wait to get their awards personalized this year nameplates will be added while they dine after the Academy Awards.
In previous years, Oscar winners had to send their awards to the Academy in the weeks following the ceremony, so engraved nameplates could be affixed to the statuettes.
But, in March, the Oscars will be personalized at the post-ceremony Governors Ball, which will be take place at the Grand Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles. Academy Award winners will be invited to enter a specially designed area, where Academy technicians will affix the personalized nameplates to each Oscar.
In preparation for the night, the Academy will create 197 nameplates, one for each nominee in every category. The engraving will include the nominee's name, category, film title and year. After the winners have been announced, the unused nameplates will be recycled.
