One Mic Entertainment, the record label of the Best Rapper Alive Okyeame Kwame has issued a press statement giving out 10 reasons why Okyeame Kwame will not diss or insult Obrafour.
They said Okyeame Kwame is not a dissing artiste but a gentleman who will not return evil to evil (They quoted Romans 12:17, Ephesians 4:26, Mathew 18:21-35 to buttress that point) and besides he considers Obrafour as his brother in the game.
One Mic Entertainment urged the media to see the whole thing as one-sided agitation and not call it a beef because it takes two to tango and it also takes two to have beef.
Even though they acknowledge the existence of beef in hip-hop, going to the studio to record a dissing track against Obrafour would have been more situation but they didnt think it was necessary as they didnt want to bring Obrafours ten years reputation into disrepute and moreover dissing Obrafuor, Okyeame Kwame would have destroyed the corporate image he worked so hard to achieve, project and protect which is the perfect gentleman image.
The full text of the press release is as follows:
On 10th October, 2009, a controversy was born upon the release of Obrafours song, Kasiebo casting insinuations which affected two main artistes, Okyeame Kwame and Obour. Anybody who heard the song either called these affected artistes for their reactions or concluded that the song was a diss song to them.
The song has enjoyed massive airplay, heavy listenership, sold a lot of newspapers, brought attention to the hiplife genre of music and both television and radio magazine programs enjoyed lots of ratings. The debate continues on http://www.ghanacelebrities.com
One thing the song failed to do was to bring respect to all artistes involved-both Obrafuor and Okyeame Kwame have had their respective fans insulting the other artiste in the newspapers to make their points. Also, Obour, Obrafour and Okyeame Kwame argued on Radio Gold on 10th October and it was then that Okyeame Kwame professed that Obrafuor had brought shame to hiplife by getting them, as respected musicians, to argue openly on radio.
Constantly, on radio, on the internet, in the newspapers and on television, Obrafour had been throwing a challenge to Okyeame Kwame to respond to the song if he felt its a diss song to him.
The Rap Doctors reaction to this was a challenge to Obrafour to meet him for a rap battle at Joy FMs open house party with DJ Black, Spotlight or any other program of his choice. His reason was simple; I cannot do a diss song and put it on wax for my son to listen to when he is old enough to understand. What kind of a father and an example would I be if my son heard a documented insult from his father about a fellow brother?.
Just when the dust was settling, Obrafour performed at Joy FM Nite with the Stars where he revisited the controversy by bringing a mannequin in a T-shirt with O.K inscribed on it and had the acronym Okyeame Kwame created from Best Rapper Alive, BRA, written in it. The audience as well as the media begun to wonder why Obrafuor had OK and BRA in the T-shirt worn by the mannequin if he was not alluding to Okyeame Kwame in his song.
One Mic Entertainment, the record label which produces the songs of Okyeame Kwame acknowledges the existence of beef in hip-hop. However, the company also acknowledges that the beef must be real. There must be a real bone of contention between the artistes. When Tupac had a beef with Biggie Smalls, Tupac felt that Biggie had sent his men after him. 50 Cent also felt that Ja Rule had sent his thugs for his chain. Suge Knight also felt that Snoop had violated the street code of secrecy.
Therefore, if Okyeame Kwame and Obrafuor accept that there is no rift between them, then one may ask that is the beef really a beef? Or better still can we call it a beef at all since Obrafuor is the only one constantly agitating for a diss song? Pardon the clich but does it not take two to tango? Therefore, One Mic Entertainment is urging the media to see the thing as it is-a one-sided agitation.
It is for these reasons that One Mic Entertainment has issued a release, giving ten reasons why Okyeame Kwame will not reply Obrafuor with any diss song.
TEN REASONS WHY OKYEAME KWAME WILL NOT REPLY OBRAFUOR WITH A DISS SONG
1. Okyeame Kwame is not a diss artiste It can be said that songs written by Okyeame Kwame are songs to uplift or correct the ills of society and not to insult or diss a fellow artiste. His hit song 'Woso' has lyrics to buttress this fact.
2. Okyeame Kwame is a gentleman By dissing Obrafour, Okyeame Kwame would have destroyed the corporate image he worked so hard to achieve, project and protect which is the perfect gentleman image.
3. Okyeame Kwame considers Obrafour as his brother One Mic Entertainment realises the effort it takes to build an image which involves creating a concept, performing the concept and being consistent with that concept, long enough for people to identify you with that concept. As brothers, the Rap Doctor cannot throw words at Obrafuor and destroy the image that Obrafour has worked ten years to build. The relationship between them is one that Okyeame Kwame wants to keep, therefore, there will not be any insulting song written about Obrafour by Kwame.
4. Okyeame Kwame has Bible principles to uphold Return evil for evil to no man reads Romans 12:17, one of the many biblical reasons why Okyeame Kwame will not respond to Obrafours song. As a result, the Rap Doctor shall not let the sun set on him in a provoked state as clearly emphasised in Ephesians 4:26. If in truth, Obrafour was actually referring to Okyeame Kwame in his song, Okyeame Kwame, in his quest to please God and therefore adhere to Biblical admonishment found at Mathew 18:21-35 will forgive his brother of any trespass from his heart.
5. Okyeame Kwame is a role model Reggie Rockstone is the Grandpapa and Godfather of Hiplife. Right in tow are Nananom, Akyeame, Buk Bak, VIP, Ex Doe, Chicago, Tic Tac, Lord Kenya, NFL, Obrafour and many others who are seen as some of the fathers of Hiplife. As a result, many people in and outside the music industry look up to them to inspire them. Kwame wears this robe of inspiration with all seriousness. Putting a diss song on wax will be teaching the young and old looking up to him something which is not in his character. As an Artiste of the year, many established and upcoming artistes look up to him to set a good example. If he fails and disappoints them, the question will arise that if gold rusts, what will iron do?
6. Okyeame Kwame is a very busy artiste Currently, the Rap doctor has embarked on a free hepatitis B nationwide screening and is launching the Okyeame Kwame Foundation, a non-governmental organisation at the British council this December 15th. Also, he is in his final year and undertaking his 7th semester exam. He is also the ambassador for Coca-Cola and MTN. The Rap Doctor needs all the concentration and peace he can get to deliver on point and in time to succeed in satisfying all these responsibilities.
7. Okyeame Kwame is a family man Okyeame Kwame is a husband and has been blessed with a first born son whom he has named after his father. Having a family of your own has a humbling effect therefore it dawns on the Rap doctor who wants to leave a legacy of great heritage to his son to make mature decisions so that he can affect his son to do same. Dissing songs have no place in that legacy.
8. Okyeame Kwame is focused According to advanced learners dictionary, Focus means To give attention, effort, etc. to one particular subject, situation, or person rather than another. Imagine a respectful, respected, well-behaved artiste with an agenda on a journey to greatness who pays maximum attention to every little distraction enroute! It will take forty years to complete a forty day journey. The year begins with Okyeame Kwame and his management outlining his schedule for the entire year. A diss song is not part of that outline. As a focused artiste, the Rap Doctor will be swaying from a scheduled focused plan.
9. A diss song will not make a good business sense Rather, it opens up the artiste up for criticism and subjects the target of the diss to public ridicule. When a diss song is real, it reduces the confidence of the artiste, his popularity and crashes his ego. Perfection, as culture conceives, is not possible while the individual remains isolated. The individual is required under the pain of being stunted and enfeebled in his own development if he disobeys to carry others along with him in his march towards perfection [and] to be continually doing all he can to enlarge and increase the volume of the human stream sweeping hitherward. Therefore, if Okyeame Kwame cannot carry his brother to perfection, he will not diss him to isolation
10. Okyeame Kwame will never do a diss song because he wants the public to be the judge. Okyeame Kwame thanks all his fans which he calls friends for supporting what he stands for. He says if you dont stand for one thing, you fall for anything. To every person or establishment waiting for a diss song from Okyeame Kwame, One Mic Entertainment is sorry.
