The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has said that government has pledged its support to the development of boxing in the country as well support all boxers equally.
Naa Darkua Dodoo, Communications Director and PRO of the GBA said the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Frema Osei-Opare made this known to GBA during a curtsey call at the Flagstaff House.
According to Naa Darkua Dodoo, "one thing she (Osei-Opare) assured us it that, since we don’t have the Black Stars going to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2018 African Nations Championship, they will do all they can to support boxing in Ghana".
"She (Osei-Opare) said boxing is now trending, so why wouldn’t they support boxing? And GBA is the first to approach them to support the sports, so if boxing has come for support and we know the Black Stars are nowhere to be found, then they are going to do their best to support all these boxers equally", she revealed.
She therefore called on government to honor their promise as stated, beginning with the bout between Emmanuel 'Game Boy' Tagoe and Argentina's David Fernando Saucedo slated for January 27th at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
