Sunderland and Ghanaian International striker Asamoah Gyan has pleaded with Ghanaians to be cool with team mate and Goalkeeper Richard Kingson during this difficult moment in his career after accusations that he conceded easy goals in his two recent international matches.
Richard Kingson has received a lot of flake from Ghanaian soccer fans after a howler in an Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Congo in Kumasi on June 3.
But perhaps what irked Ghanaian football fans was the role he played that lead to the Black Stars loss to South Korea in an international friendly on June 7, when he conceded what many describe as a "soft" goal in injury time.
According to footballer cum musician Asamoah Baby Jet Gyan, the former Blackpool keeper was the safest pair of hands in the country at the moment, as such Ghanaians should have patience with him, pointing out that every footballer now and then experiences some bad times.
Looking at our current crop of goalkeepers, though they are all good Olele (Richard Kingson) stands heads and shoulders above all of them to be very honest with you, he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah in an interview on Peace Fms Power Sports.
He added that he had heard a lot of unhealthy statements about Richard Kingson which he thinks will not help the national number one goalie and the entire team as a whole.
He admitted that mistakes in football are inevitable, but stressed that when they do happen it is in the interest of all not to be overly critical.
I Curse My Stars For Missing Penalty
Touching on the Korea game, Gyan said it was a very good game; though on a good day the Stars could have won the friendly match.
We played the type of game the coach wanted us to play, he told Peace Fm.
He sung the praise of the Korean goalkeeper describing him as exceptional.
He made a lot of very good saves and his anticipations on the day were very good, he said.
He did acknowledged that he failed to score from the penalty spot because his kick was a poor one.
The penalty kick was very poor, I didnt take it as I should have done and there was no power behind the kick...He (The Korean keeper) saw the direction of the ball and found it very easy to grab it...It was really really poor..and I curse my stars.. I was very disappointed after the kick, he added.
