Former minister of sports Vanderpuye claims the midfielder was “misunderstood” at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, which led to his expulsion.
Immediate-past Ghana minister for sports Nii Lante Vanderpuye says he “initiated” moves to lift Sulley Muntari’s suspension from the Black Stars.
The Pescara midfielder is currently serving an indefinite ban from the national outfit for an “unprovoked physical attack” on team management committee member Moses Armah during the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
The 32-year-old sent a letter of apology to the Ghana Football Association last year - two years after the incident - but that has done little to his predicament.
“If you listen to him [Muntari] carefully, he is not the one to be blamed for the events in Brazil,” Vanderpuye said, according to Citifmonline.
“He is someone who believes in the right thing being done, and believes in respect for all.
“I’ve known Sulley Muntari since his days with Liberty Professionals. So as a son, I know who he is and it’s a pity he’s misunderstood.
“I initiated moves to get him back into the national team because he is the sort of player that can inspire the young ones coming up.”
Muntari had been part of the Black Stars since making his debut in a friendly fixture against Slovenia in 2002.
He went on to play at the 2008 and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments as well as the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cup finals.

Sulley and Micheal Essien must be called back as we do not have a team now. Look at the way this year qualifier is being played. We need the senior players that this Oto physer boys on the pit. I will also blame Asamoh Gyan too for not talking on their behalf than these small players .
He didnt slap you! If he is your son, then you didnt train him well. Ghanaians are known to respect the elderly, let alone slap him. Shame on you Vanderpuye!!!!!
I know these two are really good players but I have just learnt that they are also good "prayers" ahahah ahah ahaha ahah Just on the lighter note though. Forgive and forget. Ghana dey Bee waaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS ALL THOSE THAT SUPPORT SULE AND KELVIN BACK TO THE BLACK STARS IF THERE IS ANY BANNING, PLEASE BAN MOSES ARMAH INDEFINITELY AND INVESTIGATE WHY 75 MEN FOLLOWED THE TEAM TO BRAZIL AND WHO STOLE SULE'S WRIST WATCH AND ASAMOAH GYAN'S CASH AND KWASI APPIAH, THIS TIME DON'T CALL KELVIN 'HEY BOY' SO THAT HE DON'T SAY 'FUCK YOU' YOU ARE PART OF THE TEAM SO NEXT TIME DON'T GO TO A TOURNAMENT AND DRINK BEER WITH GFA OFFICIALS AND CORRUPT MINISTERS
The whole blame should should be pushed to NDC GOVERNMENT led by Afriyie Ankara and his boss Kwasi Nyantakyi. Look how could the National Team the Black Stars made of 25 men could be led by 75 NDC Football Official to Brazil. Also all these men enjoy wining allowances and other symptons with equally with the Black Stars. Even these NDC men who went to Brazil with their respectives girl friends were sleeping in better hotels whilst the Black Stars prayers were sleeping in leaking Hoetel with mosquitos flying over ther bodies. Considering the whole issue, these two great professionals could not bear these conditions and this resulted all these problems. Now the best way is to lift all these ban and Akwasi Appiah again, MUST call both Muntari and Prince Boateng because they are still good prayers and forget NDC Stupidness.
