The NPP, being a party that is ideologically tilted to the right and therefore focuses on the development of individual talents and successes to enable them to create personal wealth and take care of themselves, nonetheless, was able to pioneer some of the comprehensive socially-centered programmes our nation has ever known, within a period of 7 years when it inherited a HIPC economy.
A nation that was economically bankrupt in the year 2000, following 19 uninterrupted years of total misrule by Rawlings and these very same gluttons in the current Mills-Mahama administration, was painstakingly turned around under Kufuor’s stewardship to the point where our nation’s economy could afford the luxury of dishing out free maternal healthcare, bus ride for school children and Livelihood Empowerment Assistance Programme (LEAP) to Ghanaians.
And yet, people who had been blinded by their hate for Kufuor and ‘love’ for Rawlings could unashamedly sit in the studios of Radio Gold and describe Ghana, during those times, as a failed state.
Rawlings described Kufuor and all his appointees as thieves and nation wreckers because he said they were putting up houses, driving around in expensive cars and embarking on ‘bogus’ foreign trips. These accusations, and sometimes down-right insults he heaped on Kufuor and the NPP government were strongly supported by the likes of Kwesi Pratt, Raymond Archer, Tony Aidoo, Alhaji Bature, Oye Lithur and other shameless clique of Rawlings apologists.
Today, Rawlings is simply reiterating the same NPP crimes he spoke against and was heavily supported, at the time, by Kwesi and his group. Rawlings is simply echoing what he said was rife under Kufuor and warning us that the level of corruption he spoke against during NPP rule is currently being replicated on a massive scale by characters within the Mills-Mahama administration. And this same Kwesi Pratt and his cabal say ‘won etiko apae’ (they disagree)?
I very well remember when the industry built around the death of Ya Na was at its crescendo in the studios of Radio Gold. All these Rawlings apologists were mercilessly tearing themselves apart to see who amongst them could win a prize of a date with the Rawlingses over usual sumptuous meals, topped up with vigorous handshakes of elephant-like brown envelopes. Eventually, Atta Mills became the greatest beneficiary of these evil machinations by becoming the president.
Now, there is this southern Sudanese proverb that says: “A goat that uses its horn to tear the drum of a chief will pay back with its hide.” In effect, Atta Mills and his ‘nkwan deewa’ apologists who are today wailing and gnashing their teeth are the very same people who rubbed their hands with glee when Kufuor was being verbally abused by Rawlings. So, what exactly is the problem?
And do you remember how these very same people basterdised the concept of National Reconciliation Commission (NRC)? They tagged people who had been wronged by various régimes, except that of the United Party (UP), making appearance before the commission to vent their grief as “paid agents of the NPP government engaging in senseless acts of unjustifiably tarnishing the image of Rawlings”. A witness who unfortunately suffered a heart-attack and sadly died while testifying before the commission, was described as a “big liar” who had been “appropriately punished by God”.
Every step taken by Kufuor to resolve the Ya Na issue was vociferously bad-mouthed by these apologists and I remember KSM once saying on ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ programme that “if Rawlings says he should be provided with chemical interrogation gadgets before he would release the names of the culprits in the murder of the women, then the Kufuor administration must call his (Rawlings) bluff and provide the said gadget”.
Effectively, these people were trying to say to Kufuor that: ‘if you really want the truth to be told, then do whatever Rawlings says’. But as to why these very same people, today, doubt the judgment of Rawlings, vis-ŕ-vis the current decay he says is ferociously ravaging the very foundations of the Mills-Mahama administration, is an answer only the angels in heaven can provide.
Now, the UP tradition was not founded by Rawlings and therefore it is not expected, in anyway, to govern by the tenets of his dictate. As such, no sane person ever expected him to praise an NPP government. Criticisms and oftentimes plain insults he constantly heaped on Kufuor and the NPP was nothing new on our Ghanaian political landscape.
As a matter of fact, Rawlings has virtually seen nothing good about any administration of our nation, except his own. And this is where I will be prepared to agree with him when it comes to his consistency, irrespective of how destructive it might be. My problem, however, is with these plain-faced unprincipled bigots who have today turned their hypocritical arsenals on Rawlings because they are greatly benefiting from the current Mills-Mahama administration.
At the time Rawlings was being urged on by these political and journalistic chameleons to denigrate the image of Kufuor, didn’t they know that he (Rawlings) is a murderer “under whose watch over 246 innocent” and able-bodied “Ghanaians” simply vaporized into thin air as Kwesi Pratt has currently been shouting all over the place, following the announcement of Nana Konadu’s decision to wrest the NDC flagbearership?
Today, Kwesi Pratt and his cohort are describing Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as the main ‘brute force’ behind the 19 years of her husband’s leadership and therefore must be rejected by NDC delegates. But it was this very same Kwesi Pratt-led lying cabal that described the trial of Nana Konadu over the Carridem issue as ‘kangaroo’ and plain persecution because the woman had “done a lot to better the lives of Ghanaian women”.
Indeed, during the Kufuor administration, Kwesi Pratt and his group clearly portrayed to the good people of this country that they truly believe in the judgment of Rawlings. And all what Rawlings is saying today is that; Atta Mills has failed just as he said Kufuor had failed and therefore unfit to lead the NDC into the 2012 general elections.
As such, the good people of this nation expect the likes of Kwesi Pratt, Raymond Archer, A.B.A Fusein, Nana Oye Lithur, Alhaji Bature, Tony Aiddo and their legion of unprincipled loud-mouths, anomalous human rights activists and ‘nkwan deewa’ analysts to, in line with their self-acclaimed principle, rally behind their idol, Rawlings, in his pursuit to cleanse the NDC of all these greedy bastards, hostile boot-lickers and property-grabbers.
Except of course, they (Kwesi and his people) have equally been caught up in the looting craze currently engulfing the Mills-Mahama administration and have therefore decided to, strategically, position their gluttonous stomachs and insatiable social-democratic tastes at where their constantly twisting nostrils can easily smell the sweet and appetizing aroma of ‘nkwan deewa’ emanating from the kitchen of the ‘asomdwee hene’.
In an attempt to demonize the UP tradition and extol the ‘virtues’ of current greedy bastards that have taken Atta Mills hostage, with analogy of the 1966 and 1981 coups, Kwesi Pratt says he was at the Flag-staff House to see, ‘fiilifiili’, how machine guns were fired into buildings and Gen. Arnold ‘buffalo soldier’ Quainoo’s gallantry behind an uncompleted building somewhere in Asylum Down (Hot FM, 3/5/11).
Indeed, for the sake of just a teaspoon-full of ‘nkwan deewa’, Kwesi and his legion of unrepentant Atta Mills apologists will profess to have even been present when Satan rebelled against God in Heaven. Haaba, ubiquitous ‘Jack Toronto’, aaaadeeen?
The current president, Atta Mills, has been taken hostage by his close associates, brigade of juvenile delinquents, congregation of ‘huhudious’ human rights activist and legion of ‘nkwan deewa’ noise-making Champagne socialists whose political loyalty moves only in the direction of the strongest aroma of ‘nkwan deewa’.
These characters have ridden on the crest of Rawlings’ abusive diatribes and are in power today and ferociously ‘chopping Nyafunyafu’. These plain-faced vagabonds are what I refer to as sycophantic gluttons and political chameleons.
It is the handiwork of these characters that has bequeathed to the great people of this nation, a highly-destructive Frankenstein Monster called Rawlings, in whose eyes every single Ghanaian alive today has no intellect to rule except himself and members of his nuclear family. Why then are his creators sniveling and gnashing their teeth?
