An Accra circuit court on Friday remanded one Haruna Yusif, 21, in police custody for possessing narcotic drug without authority.
The accused person pleaded guilty and would re-appear on February 3, for sentence.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Cletus Abadamlora told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the accused was arrested following intelligence report received by the Narcotic unit about the activities of drug peddlers operating within the Accra New Town area.
He said a police unit in the month of August, last year, organised series of anti-narcotic drug operations on identified spots to arrest the suspects.
He said the accused person was seen at one of the wee peddling joints in Accra New Town, during one such operation.
“When most of his colleagues took to their heels, the accused person was bold to pull a knife and threatened to stab any policemen who would attempt to arrest him,” he said.
The prosecution said Haruna subsequently escaped arrest after a fierce resistance but about 0530 hours on January 29, this year personnel of the unit embarked on another operation at the same area and he was arrested.
ASP Abadamlora said a search on him revealed three wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp in his pocket.
“The suspect in his caution statement admitted ownership of the exhibits,” he said.
