Two pals have been arrested by the police for allegedly attacking a provision shop attendant at gunpoint and robbing her of various food items running into several thousands of cedis at Kwabenya, Accra.

The suspects are Lester Mensah, a 22-year-old upholsterer and Orton Quarteng, 23.

Items retrieved from them included quantities of AA cartridges, two locally manufactured pistols and some foreign ammunition.

The two were apprehended while escaping with their booty at Kwabenya.

Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, ACP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, said on December 28, 2015, at about 7:40 am, three men armed with a locally manufactured pistol attacked and robbed the shop.

ACP Bonga said the robbers approached the shop owner under the pretext of buying a shower gel.

As they waited to be attended to, they pointed the pistol at the shop owner, threatened to kill her and forcibly tied her mouth and both hands with a cello tape.

They then packed the items from the shop into bags, after which they boarded a taxi with registration number GW 8845-15 and sped off.

The victim, who was rescued by a passerby, contacted the police immediately, leading to the arrest of the two.

Even at the time of their arrest, the robbers were said to have struggled with the police and managed to throw one of the locally manufactured pistols into the bush, but it was retrieved later.

Upon interrogations, the deputy regional police boss claimed, Lester Mensah and Orton Quartengadmitted having committed the offence and were therefore being processed for court.

Their alleged accomplice, identified as Richard Opoku Asamoah,   who managed to escape during the arrest, is being hunted by the law enforcement agents.
