A young steel bender is in the custody of the police for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl.
The accused, Kwame Anane, 40, is reported to have committed the act on July 29, this year at Opah, a suburb of Accra.
Kwame Anane denied the charge before an Accra circuit court presided over by Ruby Naa Adjeley Quayson, and was remanded until August 26, 2016.
Detective Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbiri told the court that the accused lived with the mother of the victim under the same roof at Opah.
He said on the day of the incident, the victim after school, was passing in front of the house to buy charcoal when Kwame Anane called her and gave her GH¢2 to buy some of the charcoal for him.
D/C/ Insp. Atimbiri stated that the victim returned with the charcoal but the accused dragged her into his room, put her on the floor and had sexual intercourse with her.
According to the prosecutor, after the act Anane gave the victim GH¢2 and threatened her not to tell anybody.
The victim did not tell anybody until her grandmother, whom she had visited at the weekend, scented an unpleasant odour on her (victim).
D/C/ Insp. Atimbiri said the victim’s grandmother upon examination saw that the victim had a sore in her private part.
The victim as a result, narrated her ordeal, leading to the arrest of the accused.
