The Offinso Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Samuel Owartey Ansah, has sentenced a man arrested over the defilement of a minor to 25 years imprisonment.
Eric Abu, 29, had sexually abused the victim, a class two pupil at Abofour in the Offinso South Municipality and pleaded guilty to the crime.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, the Divisional Commander, said the incident happened on August 31.
The little girl had been sent by her aunt to collect money from Abu, when he lured her into his room, threw her into his bed and sexually assaulted her.
Abu after the crime, warned the victim not to tell anybody about the traumatic experience she had been taken through.
She was, however, defiant - went straight to inform the aunt of her ordeal and a formal report was made to the police, leading to his arrest.
Medical examination by doctors confirmed that she had indeed been defiled.
ACP Oduro-Kwarteng, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the court’s ruling, expressed concern about the increases cases of sexual abuse of children in the Abofour area.
He said he found the situation deeply troubling and called for parents to give more protection to the girl child.
