The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has threatened to publish every document they have to prove that their strike action is not illegal.

This was in response to government’s assertion that their strike action is illegal and insensitive.

A statement signed by the Information Minister, Mahama Ayariga on Wednesday also accused the doctors of peddling falsehood in the media.

However, President of the GMA, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei told Kwami Sefa-Kayi Thursday on the 'Kokrokoo' Morning Show that “if our strike action is illegal, the Minister of Information should take us to court and we will meet him there; we have lawyers. If they keep provoking us, we will publish all the correspondents between us and government and we will see who is illegal. The media war won’t help anybody; the insults and propaganda will not solve the problem”

According to him, they never agreed to the road map of payment in trenches and the National Labour Commission (NLC) is aware. We have all the evidence there and at the right time, we will release it one by one.

He indicated that if the doctors are not the only group on strike, government should know that structures like the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) as well as the National Labour Commission (NLC) are not working and ‘something needs to be done about it’

Speaking in an interview during Peace FM’s evening news on Wednesday, Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Frank Serebour expressed surprise at government’s statement and asked ‘why will they promise to pay the money if our strike action was illegal?’

“If we were insensitive, we would not have gone on a partial strike…if that is the way they will go, we have evidence and we will put it out for Ghanaians to see. From their (government) reaction, there is no indication that they are ready to solve the problem but we also have a time-table we are following and if they are still adamant up to the April 14, we will put down our tools completely…” he added.
