The administrator at Maamobi General Hospital, Charles Banafo has revealed that there are no beds in the hospital’s emergency unit.
According to him, emergency cases brought to the facility are attended to on trolleys.
Speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Nsem Pa, Charles Banafo, said his facility is not exempted from what has come to be widely referred to as “no-bed syndrome”.
He said, aside the beds in the gynaecology ward, there are only 15 beds in the hospital that serves the whole population of Ayawaso Constituency.
“The male wards have only six beds, similar to the female wards as well as the surgical unit with 3 beds apart from the gynaecology ward”, he lamented.
Mr. Banafo said the situation is a great worry to the operations of the facility; nonetheless, the hospital still renders service to people.
Meanwhile, the Association of Health Service Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG) has joined the calls for a thorough investigation into the “no bed syndrome” at the various hospitals.
The situation has recently caused the death of a 70-year old man.
The Association is therefore calling for a full-scale investigation to unravel the mysteries surrounding the syndrome.
It also wants appropriate policy and strategy to be proffered at the end of investigations to build a robust emergency health system in the country.
