Parents have been advised not to feed their children cowhide locally known as 'wele'.
Dean of the School of Biological Sciences of the University of Ghana, Prof. Matilda Steiner-Asiedu speaking in an interview on 'Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, said children and pregnant women need an adequate amount of nutrients in their meals; insisting 'Wele has none of that' (nutrients)
"it's just skin; there's no nutrient in it so they (parents) should feed their children with eggs and pregnant women should also eat egg and fish or meat; they should stop eating wele...instead of buying wele, the money should rather be used to buy egg or fish and other items with nutritional value" she urged.
