The National Security Secretariat has launched investigations into Wednesday night’s helicopter crash at Akyem Oda in the Eastern region.
Three persons on board the chopper escaped death after it crashed into a village in the area.
The helicopter, which was carrying gold from Obuasi in the Ashanti region to Accra, was believed to have developed a mechanical fault leading to the crash.
It was unclear who owns the helicopter and the consignment on board.
According to the District Fire officer at Akyem Oda, Ismail Mohammed, officials of national security outfit have taken over the case, having come for the individuals and the consignment.
“The helicopter crashed in a thick forest and it was even difficult for us fire officers to travel to the destination. But the people are safe. And before we got there, National security officers came to pick them and the gold and everything else on board the helicopter,” the officer said.
