National security has taken control over the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) re-sit papers scheduled on June 29- June 30, Mr Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Education said on Saturday.

The move, he said, is part of actions taken by government to avert a repeat of any incidence of leakage, and to restore confidence and credibility in the conduct of the country’s basic examination.

The minister, who is responsible for tertiary education, made this known at the 21st congregation of Valley View University during, which 2,530 graduates were awarded various degrees.

Mr Ablakwa said national security ongoing investigation into the examination scandal that rocked West African Examination Council has given a clue to where the leakage started and that all those involved have been arrested.

He pledged government commitment to deal with the culprits in order to woo back public trust in the conduct of the basic examination.

He said the security officials would be in charge for the entire chain of the West African Examination Council, including selection of exam questions, printing of papers and distribution throughout the period as part of government effort to enhance security.

“Government wants to assure all parents and guardians as well as the candidates who are going to rewrite the six cancelled papers that starting from Monday, June 29, that there is enhanced security to avert any leakage,” he said.
