Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has advised government to consider nuclear energy as an alternative to the erratic electricity supply in the nation.
According to Mr. Pratt, Ghana cannot continue to rely on her traditional ways of generating and supply of electricity.
He noted on Peace FM's Kokrokoo that the way forward to improve the energy situation in the nation is to use nuclear energy to produce supplementary volumes of electricity to communities in the country.
“The time has come that we now have to begin to think about going nuclear. Whether we like it or not, we have to go there."
Expressing worry over the high tariffs and faulty prepaid meters currently in the system, he strongly called on the government to put in place measures to curtail the problem.
To him, Ghana cannot rely on solar or thermal energy since the entire nation's demand will not be met. He thus urged the government to adopt efficient ways of producing the nuclear energy.
This, he said, is because the negative effects of nuclear are deadly if not properly handled.
"....it could cause mass destruction...but i still believe going nuclear is the best solution for the energy sector," the Senior Journalist stated.
