President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that he is unaware of the strike action being embarked on by the nurses of the Accra Psychiatric hospital.
The president who was speaking on Sunrise radio in the Eastern region on Tuesday told the host, he was yet to be informed about the current impasse that has compelled management of the largest specialized mental health hospital to discharge three hundred patients to safeguard the woeful situation.
The disclosure of the president comes after the nurses served a two week notice of strike prior to the industrial action which was carried out on Monday.
The nurses complain they are reeling under unsafe working conditions over non availability of drugs for mentally deranged patients coupled with inadequate logistics and hospital consumables.
President Mahama however explained the need for Ghana to pay keen attention to mental health because of the vulnerability of each individual in society to find him or herself in a state of insanity.
“No it has not come to my attention, but I do know that the area of mental health is one of the areas that we need to focus attention. Our psychiatrists tell us that all of us have a bit of madness in us and that somehow we all have some mental disorder or the other. It means that it is something that we need to pay attention to. We passed the mental health bill and government is committed to its implementation,” President Mahama went on and on.
“We will take immediate steps to resolve the issue at the Accra psychiatric hospital and I am going to call the minister of health after this programme to see what the issues are and see how we will resolve them,” he assured.
This however paints a bleak picture as to the seriousness and the urgency with which a quick solution could be sought for the displeased nurses at the Accra Psychiatric hospital and persons seeking healthcare from the hospital.

Bawumia has given the simple reason: Mahama, family and friends live in a different country and above all they do not read!
No wonder you are labelled incompetent.
I'm sure he's not even aware that GETFund has been owing schools abroad for the past year. He doesn't know that school feeding is in arrears. He knows zilch. All he knows is women, hotel in Dubai and fleecing the nation. I said it before: 'this dude done lost it!' He's completely lost the plot and has been reduced to a foot soldier!
For a President of a Nation to issue such a statement of not being aware of what is going on in the Nation, Mr President your kingdom has come to an end. Better Resign from your post with immediate effect, sad, very sad indeed. ( O Mother Ghana GOD ALMIGHTY will Redeem you from the hands of your bloody enemies.Amen ).
This is very unacceptable and an indication that the president is not on top of affairs. thought it was a lie but is true. if you nave a president who only think about the next elections then we are in trouble. Apparently the man does not care about us. Ghana Day of SHAME.

Oh Ghana, in fact today is a sad day to be declared in Ghana. I am so saddened that the president of Ghana is unaware of a strike by nurses of the mental hospital. And so what is he aware of? perhaps he can recite all the loan agreements that is being passed in parliament, that is where his interest is; and he wants to continue as what? somebody should ask him, may be he's not aware of what he wants to continue to be
What are you aware of in Ghana? We have a GHOST president who is most CORRUPT and has opened the door for his cronies to RIP the country off
The president is not serious and he has never taken his position serious. He always praise him of how good a communicator he is but in Ghana we glorify mediocrity.
