Many are yet to come to terms with the sudden death of former vice president Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Air Force Gym in Accra last Friday.
The former Bank of Ghana Governor, according to reports, had driven himself to the gym to undertake his usual exercise routine but did not go back home.
Reports say the former vice president collapsed and died at the 37 Military Hospital, where he was rushed to following the tragic incident.
But while the family of the late statesman, supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the entire nation mourn the unexpected demise of one of the most dignified politicians in Ghana’s history, a Member of Parliament is asking for a further probe into the incident.
The Adaklu MP, Kwame Agbodza says the manner in which the health system failed the former vice president at the military installment is unacceptable.
He also claims that the comment by Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, on a pro-government social media platform soon after the death is suspicious.
He questioned circumstances leading to the tragic incident asking “what were the issues around it, who did he go there with, who were the people there, when the thing happened what was the protocol," he told Joy News.
He added “It just doesn’t add up that the vice president will go to a gym and things like this will happen…an air force gym is not a small installation…I just think that the things don’t add up and we need better information about this,” the MP stressed.
Therefore, he wants a committee, comprising of top medical and security officials set up by Parliament to investigate circumstances leading to the death of Mr Amissah-Arthur.
“Let’s have an inquiry. If you invite people to your house and one of them is seriously injured, the police can question you to just update them on what happened at the location, so that they can find out whether it is a normal accident or someone attempted hurting the person."
“And when we have a vice president, as we are told, going into that kind of problem at a military installation like that, I think it is important to get better information than just tell us that he collapsed while training and we threw him at the back of a pickup and took him to the hospital,” he added.
Mr Agbodza is however not in favour of government-appointed officials on the committee. He wants only people who are “independent minded” to be part of it.
The MP also chastised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for failing to declare a state of mourning, as is always done for high ranking government officials.
He is sad that although the President was one of the first to issue a statement about the death, no other respectful step was taken in honour of the late former vice president.

I see this apology of a parliamentarian is trying hard to link the govt to his death. But it won't wash rather look within your party NDC for answers to his death. Shame on you.
JOHN MAHAMA AND ASIEDU NKETIA KNOW HOW AMISSAH ARTHUR DIED, ASK THEM TO TELL YOU HOW THEY SACRIFICED THE MAN, TO TRY AND WIN THE 2020 ELECTIONS.
things did not add up because the npp and ndc have deliberately broken the health care system in ghana. instead of investing in healthcare for all, these so called politicians have the nerve to steal the nation's money and buy ticket to go abroad for their own healthcare needs forgetting that emergency can happen anytime. what goes round comes round. until these ***barred word*** politicians invest in the healthcare system and stop disrespecting doctors and nurses , things will not improve. how much does it cost a government or a nation to buy more ambulances and train paramedics to cater for every one. but for greed and big show, ghanaian politicians has lost their priorities and only focus on lining their pockets with state money. it embarrasing for both atta mills and emisah arthur to be ferried at the back of a pick up truck in an emergency to a hospitai. wise up ghana.
Oh Ghana....!!!! Why do pple who're suppose to level-minded rather turn to be so irrational because of party colours. Mr MP were you in the country when a whole sitting president died under a very mysterious circumstances? Where was he? In the castle and then what happened? Can u tell us. As at e time Prof Mills died, he was e country's asset. Pple called for a coroner's inquest. We were told e family said it should be kept private. Pple like Prof Badu Akosa demanded it but nothing happened. The country has been kept in e dark till this day and only God knows what happened on that fateful day behind e close doors of e castle. So Mr MP if u're calling for an investigative committee then I think we should have two of them to investigate both incidents. Or what do u think?
You see why you are not respected by your constituents? Its because of these childish behaviors. The president, even though is aware of the demise of the late former veep? he must be informed officially for him to also officially direct all flags to fly at half mask. For your information, the family have officially informed the president and he has accordingly directed the flags to fly at half mask. Secondly, tell us what the defense minister said and explain its implications to us since you suspect something. Mr.MP, even in the the OVAL office anything can happen to anyone especially heart attacks; which has no respect for persons. If you know something fishy about his death, go to the police....simple!
If things don't add up, go and die! Will the committee bring him back to life? Nkwassssia sem. NDC ppl are the very big ediots
Is ds man supposed to b informed???? Arh African no wonder we r so behind bcos of pple as ds. Cardiac arrest can happen to u suddenly n u can b gone in seconds!! Think man think
FOOLISSH MAN DID YOU CALL FOR COMMITTEE OF ENQUIRY INTO ATTA MILLS DEATH?
