Three robbery incidents in Tema are raising eyebrows among residents of the Habour City as to whether the Phantom Three drones, procured a couple of months ago by the Police administration to track the activities of criminals in the Region are operational.
The three successive robbery operations rocked various parts of the city over a period of seven days.
The drones, which residents were told would operate 24 hours, was launched a few months back by the former Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nana Asoma Hinneh, but nothing has changed in the area in terms of security.
On Friday October 26, 2018, gun men attacked fuel attendants at a filling station with a restaurant at Community 8, and made away with huge sales, followed by another incident on Sunday October 28, where three young men on two motorbikes, in a broad day, raided a pharmacy shop at Community 4, and bolted with an undisclosed amount of cash. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footages captured how the incident happened.
The last robbery took place at a hotel at Community 8, and again, the robbers succeeded in fleeing with cash.
Interestingly, no fatalities or injuries were recorded in all three robberies, but the Tema Regional Police Command has remained tight-lipped on the development.
When contacted for comment, the Regional Command Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Darkwah, simply said: “The Command is holding a meeting on the security situation in Tema Region and will soon come out with a press release”.
