Niger's military junta has cut ties with Nigeria, Togo, the US and France following failed talks with a delegation from the regional bloc, Ecowas, that were aimed at resolving the political stand-off after President Mohamed Bazoum's ousting last week.
Junta member Col Amadou Abdramane made the announcement on state TV on behalf on the coup leaders, recalling Niger's ambassadors from those four nations.
A delegation led by Nigeria’s former military head of state, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, met some members of the military junta on Thursday but left after just a few hours without any sign of progress.
The Nigerian President and Ecowas head, Bola Tinubu, has yet to respond to Niger's cutting of diplomatic ties.
West African defence chiefs are set to conclude a three-day meeting in Nigeria on possible military interventions to pursue should diplomacy fail.

@Dan,***barred word*** masses always pour onto the street whenever there's coup,it doesn't mean anything...these military guys take over and end up being worst corrupt leaders...take Rawlings' coup as an example, did Ghana get better after those coups? In fact, Rawlings came to power as ordinary hungry man yet died as rich sultan(he amassed enough wealth to educate his children in blue Ivy league schools outside)....know that,no matter what democratic rule is better than military rule anytime, anywhere.
Niger is not like Liberia or Gambia oooo. These 2 are relatively small countries so Ecowas could easily move in. The Ecowas heads of state should rather ask themselves ; what are the causes of the recent spate of coups in the west African sub-region? The should ask themselves ; why do the civilian population pour onto the streets in support of military takeovers against the very people they queued and voted for. They should ask themselves ; why are politicians losing their respect in the eyes of their people? They should ask themselves ; why do the people now see every politician as a liar , dishonest, not trustworthy, greedy, selfish? They should ask themselves ; how come they fail to honour the promises they made to their people. Did they see any soldier with a gun forcing them to make those promises? Any attempt to send Ecowas troops to Niger could backfire. The soldiers are also human beings, they also feel the heat, they also see all that is happening, if you are honest they know, if you are dishonest, azaaaaa, ***barred word***, they know. The soldiers also vote, they also heard all you said when you were campaigning for power and know if have delivered. These corpus can easily be stopped .All you need is to be honest, don't lie in between your teeth and still quote the bible, don't grab what belongs to all for yourself, eg state lands, auction cars , government buildings , sending delelopment to your area to the neglect of others when the people know that left to your area alone, you can never be president . don't amend the constitution to prolong your stay when your mandated term comes to and. Don't respond to the genuine concerns of the very people who made you a president with disrespectful answers. Know that as president, you are not a better citizen than anybody else. Know that even if you are made a president for life you can't still solve all the development challenges of your country , when water stays in the mouth for long , it turns into saliva. Know that when your term comes to an end, go, you are not the only one who deserves to enjoy or suffer for your people . If African leaders can do these simple things, no soldier will take a broom stick against them much more a gun/s. If they can't do these, bet me the military will come and they will come and the people will support them.
