Former Deputy Defence Minister, Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd.), has stated that there is no need for the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to appear before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee that is investigating his alleged ousting.
One of the implicated police officers, COP George Alex Mensah, told the committee that Dr. Dampare was responsible for the recording of the leaked tape and had in his possession, the original copy if the committee needed it.
Major Oduro, speaking on Citi Fm’s Eyewitness News, claimed that there was “no need for the IGP to be invited” before the committee.
He also criticized the decision to broadcast the sittings of the committee, potentially harmful to public security.
However, James Agalga, the Vice Chairman of the committee, asserted that, although Bugri Naabu had taken responsibility for the recorded audio, and Alex Mensah had given it a new twist, claiming that the IGP had engineered the conversation’s recording, the committee might still have to invite the IGP to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Now politician , have you seen what you creating .You have able to divide us so you can continue your plans . Division will destroy us . What ever one will do , you surely get some who will be against it .This IGP is working and performing . We thank the President for not going on party lines .
Major, i disagree with you on this matter. Here is a case several allegations have been leveled by COP Alex Mensah against Akuffo Dampare, the IGP. It will only be fair for the IGP to also tell his side of the story for there are two sides to every coin. The politicization of public institutions is what is bringing about all these confusion. Even though the president has the power to appoint and disappoint he must do it with wisdom. Am told COP Alex Mensah was a Superintendent of police at the time the IGP was a sergeant.( I stand to be corrected) The IGP then rose through the ranks until they all became Commissioners of police (COP) together with others but then COP Alex Mensah is senior. From every indication COP Alex Mensah is is pained because he is/ was now answerable to his former junior now turned IGP. This can be avoided if the appointing authority goes strictly according to seniority. We shouldn't joke with the security institutions of this country because these are the very people Ghanaians rely on for their safety when they retire to bed at night. It is because of politics that we made COP Kofi Boakye to idle for years till he went on retirement. He sat quietly as armed robbers were attacking bullion vans in broad daylight in the capital city (Accra) leading to needless deaths because that is what those in charge wanted. Politics in Ghana is doing more harm than good to the country and it's people. If politicians want to keep their jobs as politicians then they better do things right. Assuming COP Alex Mensah still had 3 or 4 more years to serve as a senior police officer, what will the relationship between him and the IGP look like, a cat and mouse game? Can the parliamentary committee sitting on this issue call for the pre mature retirement of Alex Mensah considering all the negative things he said about the IGP? Fortunately i heard he (Alex Mensah) will be retiring this month. But for this, there would have been factions in the police service, the Alex Mensah faction and the Dampare faction, see the danger.
