The Omanhene of the Sefwi Anwhiaso Traditional Area, Nana Yaw Gyebi, has appeared before a Bibiani Circuit Court accused with 15 others of threat of death and causing unlawful damage.
They also face additional charges of abetment of crime and rescue of a person from lawful custody. They all pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of GH�6,000 each with a surety to re-appear on September.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah told the court that on the eve of New Year in 2004, the chief led a group of men to demolish a block of 14 stores that was at the lintel level and belonged to Mr Richard Ackah at Degede, a suburb of Bibiani. The police got wind of the incident and went to the scene where they met only one Yaw Kwarteng.
He was arrested detained at the police station. Police Chief Inspector Asamoah said Nana Gyebi on hearing the arrest and detention of Kwarteng, organized and led some men to the police station and forcibly released the detainee from lawful custody.
