2012 Presidential Aspirant of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor has implored President John Dramani Mahama to legalize the operations of galamsey in the country.
According to her, President John Mahama should encourage the citizenry to get into small-scale mining as part of his plans to create employment for the people of Ghana.
She advised the President to engage the illegal miners and make "galamsey" business (illegal small-scale mining) in the nation attractive to Ghanaians.
What I wanted him to say (during his State of the Nation Address) was to legalize galamsey business (small-scale mining) for the youngstersHe should operationalize it for the youth to be gainful employed," she said on U-TV's "Mid-day News" on Friday.
The GFP Presidential candidate further disclosed that it was upon her counsel that President John Mahama expatriated Chinese illegal miners.
I told the President to repatriate the Chinese miners and he obeyed, and also honoured my request. True to his word, he flushed out all the Chinese miners.
To her, the President made the move so as to give Ghanaians the upper hand in the mining field and so, added that it is about time the government authorizes the Ghanaian 'illegal' miners to carry on with their work.
