More than forty houses have been flooded, following heavy rains in the Central regional capital, Cape Coast Wednesday, causing destruction to properties running into millions of cedis.
The flood, according to some residents, was caused by structures built on waterways.
Joy FM's Central Regional Correspondent, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko reported that the flood has caused a lot of havoc in areas around the Ankafo hospital, Adisadel College and 3rd Ridge, all in the Cape Coast metropolis.
Meanwhile, officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) are on the ground assessing the cause and extent of damage experienced from the flooding.
Residents say structures built on water ways are the cause of the flooding.
They are therefore calling on authorities in the metropolis to deal with the situation.
Speaking to Joy News, Central Regional NADMO Coordinator, Yisande Amartey noted that proper measures were not taken into consideration when citing projects in the vicinity.
According to him, due to the serious flooding of homes, rooms and offices in the area, officials of the fire service were brought in to help the situation by pumping out the flood water.
