Domestic fires dominated fire-related incidents in the Tema Region in 2013, according to statistics released by the Tema Region of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Out of a total of 119 outbreaks, 51 domestic fires were recorded, while fires caused by oil spillage and refuse dumps were four, the least, but officials called for collaborative efforts to decrease their occurrence as they could bring about serious injuries and damage to properties.
Twelve cases of commercial fires were recorded, while 15 cases of bush fires were reported and 9 industrial fires were also recorded.
Two institutional fires were recorded, 10 cases of vehicular fires and 16 recorded cases of electrical fires were reported.
Madam Rosemary Brobbey, Public Relations Officer of the GNFS in Tema, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the service was able to minimize the occurrence of electrical and domestic fires through education in the various communities.
