The first induction ceremony for the Public Law and Advocacy Fellowship (PILA Fellowship) of the Noble Law Group (NLG) was held on 31st March 2022 at Challenge House, Accra.

The Team Lead of NLG, Benedicta Lasi Esq., led the effort to establish the organization in 2014, with the aim of advancing public interest law and policy advocacy on the African continent through its research and advocacy work.
The PILA Fellowship is a key component of the Noble Law Group’s work which aims at nurturing public interest lawyers in African countries. Fellows are to work in partnership with communities, government agencies, and other key stakeholders on law and public policy issues affecting the country.
“The fellows are drawn from the various law faculties in Ghana. Numbering 12 in total, the fellows will hone their skills in public law and advocacy and undertake projects, both individually and in groups that will contribute to the body of knowledge on public law”, she said.

The Guest of Honour for the event was Prof. Sir Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, who is Director of the Judges Training Institute, a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Member of the ICC Advisory Board. He expressed his enthusiasm for the fellowship, adding that it was amazing that at a young stage in their career, the fellows were interested in public law.

In attendance was Mr. Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng the Chief Executive Officer of Crime Check Foundation. Mr. Kwarteng charged the Fellows to remain passionate about public law as it is rewarding, in that one gets to impact society positively by addressing the ills in the justice system in Ghana.
Abdul Rasheed Saani Esq., a Public Defender with the Legal Aid Commission of Ghana was also presented and tasked the Fellows to work to attain happiness for others and not for money only in their career.

The Fellowship Coordinator, Emmanuel Kwabena O. Amoah Esq., said "the induction was just a foundation. We hope that the Fellowship will provide the platform to develop more interest in Ghana’s public law and charged the Fellows to be Ambassadors as well.”

One of the inductees, Miss Chleo-Patra Awonpomi Azantilow emphasized the Fellows’ perspective.
"I felt encouraged when I was informed of my acceptance into the Fellowship. I believe that, together with my colleague Fellows, we will live up to our mandate and with passion and dedication, contribute our quota to ensuring that the purpose for the Fellowship is grounded in our future pursuits.”

As part of their activities, the Fellows will be involved in internship and externship opportunities with affiliate institutions and organizations that will deliver a practical experience to the Fellows.
