Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey (Rtd), Director-General of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has revealed that Ghana is poised to sign more bilateral agreements at the 6th ICAO Air Services Negotiation Conference (ICAN 2013).

He said Ghana is expecting to renew and sign new bilateral and multilateral agreements with other countries at ICAN to be held in South Africa in December.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview at the Kotoka International Airport, in Accra Air Commodore Mamphey noted that Ghana’s aviation industry had seen a lot of improvement with a number of new airlines operating in Ghana.

He said Ghana is expected to sign some new agreements at the conference that would allow more carriers to fly to the country.

Currently, about 33 airlines operate to Accra with the recent ones including Royal Jordanian Airlines, Pison Air, Middle East Airlines, Tap Portugal, and Ethiopian Airlines.

Last year, 62 countries participated in the conference which included about 350 bilateral meetings and resulted in the signing of 130 bilateral agreements.

Commodore Mamphey revealed that a new cargo airline- Trans Mediterranean Airways also known as TMA Cargo from Beirut in Lebanon would soon begin operations to Ghana.
