The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie is optimistic that the NPPs flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo will win the 2012 presidential elections convincingly despite the prediction of a recent poll.
The evidence on the ground is that the NPP come 2012, a year ahead of today, Nana Akufo Addo will be crowned as the President of the republic of Ghana and that is what he is confident of, he said.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, who said this in an interview on the Big Bite morning show on Xfm 95.1, added that as to whether any polls says Nana Akufo Addo is leading by this margin or Atta Mills is leading by that margin, for him (Nana Addo), that is not what Ghanaians are going to consider when casting their votes in the ballots.
The UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit has predicted a slim victory for the ruling NDC if the general elections were held today.
According to the Units analysis for its monthly review for December 2011, the 2012 election looks to be a repeat of the 2008 elections, where President Mills defeated Nana Addo by less than 1% of the votes.
However, the polls did not rule out the possibility of an NPP win, and this Sir John did not fail to miss.
He noted that the report is inconclusive because at one point in time the outcome will favor Nana Akufo Addo as being the winner and another time it will favor John Evans Atta Mills as the winner, adding, so if it is not the head, then it is the tail.
He further explained that the results of the polls should be precise and not approbate and reprobate any result they bring out.
Its either they have it right or wrong but to contemplate brings doubt about the credibility of the polls, he said.
According to him, the NPP will win the elections with the support of Ghanaians because everything points to the fact that Atta Mills is a goner since Ghanaians will reshuffle and confine them to the dustbin of history.
