The newly outdoored 2012 running mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said he felt humbled with the overwhelming endorsement he had from the National Executive Council members of the party as vice presidential candidate.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi News Umaru Sanda Amadu, from his Kanda residence, he said the sacred responsibility entrusted on him will lead to the total transformation of the country when the NPP is given the nod in the December 2012 elections.

Below is the full interview:

Umaru Sanda: Congratulations

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia: Thank you

Sanda: How did you get the announcement?

Dr. Bawumia: I was informed from the conclusion of the meeting from the party headquarters that I have been unanimously endorsed by the National Executive Council.

Sanda: How did you receive it?

Dr. Bawumia: I was humbled. Its really a sacred responsibility that has been entrusted on me by the flagbearer [Nana Akufo-Addo] and by the National Executive Council. The future of the party is what we are talking about. I am very humbled by this nomination and endorsement.

Sanda: How is the 2012 Nana Addo-Bawumia ticket going to be different from the 2008 bid?

Dr. Bawumia: Before I address that, I want to thank Nana Akufo-Addo for the confidence and honour he has reposed in me. I want to thank very much our national executives and council for overwhelmingly and unanimously endorsing me and all well wishers particularly the youth.

I dont see the nomination as personal or individual one. My nomination will be meaningless if it is not linked with the total economic transformation of Ghana and this is what we are looking at the total economic transformation of Ghana and the vision of the NPP. It is a party of free enterprise and a party of liberal values and ideology and a party that espouses good governance not only by word, but by deed. This is what this election is about and we are talking about making Ghana the manufacturing hub of West Africa.

We are talking about bringing free education at the Senior Secondary School level and we are talking about bridging the gap between the North and the South how do we make sure their welfare is looked after. We really want to see this as an opportunity to economically transform Ghana. Its about the youth and creating job for our people, good healthcare, good education, well planned city and industrialized transformation and this is where we are going.

Thank you so much.
