President John Evans Atta Mills has again reiterated his commitment to ensuring a peaceful and fair election. He has also warned that his administration will deal with any anarchist who will try to subvert the course of justice adding that the peace and tranquility prevailing in the country will be jealously guarded ahead of the December polls.
Speaking at this years May Day celebration held at the Sunyani Coronation Park on the theme: Election 2012: The Role of the Worker in Securing a Peaceful and Fair Election, President Mills indicated that per the success chalked by the country in terms of holding peaceful elections, he will not allow anybody to turn the country into a state of anarchy.
Ghana is the only country that we have. How many of us can afford to carry our blankets and mats and empty suit cases; where will we be taking them? I know that as President, it is my responsibility; but I want to assure you of my determination and with the Help of Almighty God to ensure that our elections are free, fair and transparent. The law will be no respecter of status. It will deal with everybody alike and will make sure that those who decide to break the law are indeed made to face the full rigors of the law. I will not allow anybody to turn this country into a country of anarchy President Mills vowed.
Acknowledging the contribution that the labour union has made towards the development of the country, President Mills pointed out that though he will not discourage foreign trade, his government will ensure that local companies are not discriminated against in any procurement process.
President Mills added that the $3 billion Chinese loan has been procured to help reengineer the private sector, insisting that his government has managed the economy in a way that puts money in the pockets of Ghanaians.
He assured the TUC that plans are far advanced to complete the labour office complex, to provide offices for organized labour.
We are not going to discourage foreigner or discriminate against anybody, but as President who has been elected by Ghanaians, I believe that the least that I can do is to help them compete equally with the foreignerI am happy that we are celebrating this day and I am happy with the contribution that you have made; let me tell you we appreciate what you have done and I will like to assure you that plans are far advanced to complete the labour office complex he added.
